Hi all,
Just wondering if anyone out there in bub hub land has any knowledge of a birthing centre or something similar in the dural area. We are looking for something more homley than a hospital but are also looking for one with medical interventions. I am worried about an emergency c-section...i dont want to put bub in any danger.

Hi there,
Nothing around that area. There is a birthing centre in blacktown (or in the hospital there) which with the M7 link doesn't take long to get to.
Other than that, there are a few very pro-natural Obs around the hills area, one at Hills Priv and Westmead Pub and the other at Westmead Pub and Priv that I know of (one of which is my current Ob and just fantastic).
For the majority you are looking at private hospitals with only Westmead Public and Blacktown as the only public options that spring to mind.
I am a doula so have seen a fair bit of the hospitals and the Obs in the area so just holler if you need any more info.
Oh, other option is a homebirth midwife, can provide you with details on those too if you like as I investigated it for myself a while back.
Good luck!

I'm pretty sure Hornsby has a new maternity ward. My 2 y/o had Rotavirus and was admitted into Hornsby around 9 months ago, the nurses were telling me about the new maternity ward about to open.
I had my first child at the Birth Centre at Royal North Shore Public. It was a natural birth, hubby could stay overnight, we were discharged the next day everything was great.
We then moved and I was going to have my second child at Hornsby but the new ward wasn't ready yet and Royal North Shore were willing to take me back because I had my first bubby there so I wanted to stick with what I knew. Second birth wasn't quite as smooth, it was still a natural but I lost alot of blood so I needed to stay in for several days, although bub was okay it was nice to come out of the birth centre and into the regular ward for the remainder of my treatment.
I've heard good things about Hornsby.
