Hi pinky. Sorry for the long post.

My babe is 10 days old. She appears quite happy with BF but I am not.

In hospital i had some engorgement issues which in combination with quite flat nipples prompted an LC to introduce a nipple shield. Bub feeds quite happily with this. We are practicing attachment without it and manange around 1-2 feeds a day without the shield. Her attachemnt looks textbook to me (it has been checked by an LC since i have been home from hospital who gave me some pointers).

The main issue is my nipples are very sensitive. It hurts INTENSLY for the first 10-15 seconds of a feed and then feels ok. Also it hurts during letdown on the not attached side as well. Also between feeds the nipples are really sore if touched or if they become cold/erect it is really sore.

Occassionally after a feed with the shield i get a ridge on my nipple but not always.

The nipples have one whitened patch on them each. This has developed in the last 2 days.
Do you think this could be thrush? or just poor attachment? or left over damage from our initial dramas?

Also is it true that nipple shields decrease milk supply so you need to express to keep up supply? My breasts have been feeling so full of milk and baby is so happy i havent been bothering to express.

Thanks
