I was wondering if anyone has had any procelain veneers for cosmetic reasons?
I have a bit of a gap between my teeth and have been advised i could get braces or simply get some veneers....i like the idea of it all...im just wondering how they feel, did it hurt when they were fitted and how much did they cost?
I have been given a quote which seems quite reasonable but it would be fantastic to get a general idea on the price others have paid.
Any information would be greatly appreciated!
i would love them.. seen them on them cosmetic shows. although just wondering... isnt there a time limit on how long u can have them, IE 5 years or something? im probably wrong, just what i thought someone once told me.

Yeh i think your right.... i have heard it is around 10 years if you do all the right things.
Thats probably whats putting me of having it done....at least with braces once its all over with they stay that way- or at least thats the plan!
yeah thats true.
my sister has front teeth work, and i think that was why she didnt go for veneers.
she ended up paying a fortune for the work that she did choose anyways.
i think veneers look terrific though,k even if they do have a temp life span.

I would love these too but after a conversation with my aunty, a dental hygeinist, she said they have to file your real teeth to make them smaller, then once theyre on they get brown stains around the gumline. Theres a lot of maintenence involved. Also, if your original teeth are filed back you cant ever go back to having them without veneers.
If I had a choice I'd get the braces. They may seem more expensive for the initial outlay but the veneers will have to be maintained for the rest of your life.

Yep...my best friend has veneers on her top 4 front teeth. So hated her original teeth but yep they totally file your teeth into a point and then cement the veneers to your newly filed teeth. She said they need maintaining like regular visits to the denist not anymore than normal checkups and they should last 15 years before being possibly replaced.
Given all that she loves her new teeth and has a much greater self esteem with her new bewtiful teeth!

Yes the whole filing of your real tooth thing is a little bit scary! Braces represent a more permanent solution and are not actually that much more expensive ( $1000 more... but much less outlay in the longrun).
I suppose the thing thats putting me of having braces is i will finish my masters this year and will hopefully start "real" work next year. Im not sure it would be very appealing to come to a psychologist with braces :( i know that sounds a little irrational....just what i am thinking.

Mate.....my aunty is 46 and has just her braces off this year! A lady I work with is a 52 year old nanna with groovy coloured braces. If your teeth bother you then do it! But I will say from experience they do hurt a little at time, especially when they are tightened.
My SIL got them and was very unhappy, so she had them removed and is now wearing braces for the next 8 or so months. She thinks it's worth it!
