My DS is on zantac but every time I give t to him he gags and spits most of it out. I've tasted it and it is very bitter so I can understand his gagging.

Does anyone else who uses it have this problem with their bub and how do you get around it?

Hi Tizi, my DS is the same. If I can give it to him when he's in a good mood and lay him right back and put a little bit in at a time while talking to him so he forgets what I'm doing, I can usually get it all in. Sometimes he does spit it back at me though. Good luck.

My DS is also on ZANTAC and he doesn't have a problem taking it...
He has been on it since about 5-6 weeks old and is now 6 months...
I use the sringe that came with the panadol..

I think he is so use to it now and knows that once he has it, he knows he is going to get a feed..

Good Luck

Tizi, how is he fed? If hes bottle fed, do 10ml of zantac in a bottle then give him the remainder of his feed after hes finished that 10ml. If hes breastfed Im sorry, I have no idea. :)

He is bottlefed but the doctor told me I have to give it to him half an hour before he has a bottle.

Also he has told me to give it to him three times a day, but I read on the insert that it can be taken once or twice a day. Does anybody else give it three times a day?

I give my DS 3 times a day...
I also give it to him just before I BF him, sometimes I forget before a feed, so I take him off, give him Zantac and then pop him back on...

My GP told me to give it with bottle because its to reduce wind hence the putting it in the bottle. Up to you but you might want to give it a go and see if it still has the desired result without the issues. Just a thought.
We did it twice a day from memory.........

Edited to add that all the other anti-wind meds such as infacol and gripe water etc are given at the time of feeding if thats any help for you.

Zantac isn't really for wind, it's for reflux. I was told to give it about 15 minutes before a feed. I too use the syringe from the panadol. I give it 3 times a day as well.

Thanks Caitlins mum. That's pretty much what my paediatrician told me to do, but he gets very distressed when I give it to him. I hate giving it to him.
