Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone out there has had this happen. Just had a 18 week scan and they said it was a girl yet at a 16 week scan said it was most certain to be a boy? The first person who did the 16w scan was very thorough and the scan person today was rough and quick and when asked to confirm sex was like oh hassel? Don't know what to think now just wanted to have a fair idea so I could prepare colours. Also didn't want DH to get an idea one one sex then be dissappointed if other.
The heart rate is still around 130/140 if this helps.

Thanks for listening just feel down after the way the person doing the scan seemed so rough and hasseled by it.

Hi not sure if you have been in the due in july thread but I am in there so come over and chat!!

As for the scan they usually don't get it wrong if they think it is a boy but when they say girl they can get it wrong!!

I would ask for another appointment if it was at the same place explain that you have been given 2 different answers, they will usually do it for nothing as it is an error on their behalf.

I've heard that when someone says it's a boy, it's most probably definitely a boy. Whereas if they say its a girl, there's a small percentage it could be a boy.

Will you be getting another scan?

Thanks everyone,

I am meant to be getting another scan somewhere along the way but not sure when. I am one of these people I guess that just want to know, not big on surprises. Besides was so keen on starting the nursery already cleared out half the spare room  and had started getting a few boy (boats & car) things to go in there. . . . . .probablly jumped the gun a bit but hard not to buy something when you see it on the shelf.

I feel better today anyway. Thanks for listening will keep you all posted if I get a better idea on what baby willl be.

Hi all,

The heart rate is still around 130/140 if this helps.

It's a boy...according to the heart rate...
Apparently if the heart rate is below 150 (or is it 160 not sure) then its a boy. I was told that boys have lower heart rates than girls. This is according to MIL who predicted DS as a boy when I told her the heart rate (she used to be a sonographer) and she hasnt seen me even in photos through my pregnancy.

We are planning on paying for a 3D scan, just because we really want one done anyway, i think they are amazing, and apparently VERY clear when it comes to the sex of bubs (not that we are finding out), maybe try that if your interested?

I doubt they will give you another scan just because you didn't find out the sex properly...

Mumma_Jessy: Thanks, where and how do you get one of them done? Do you need a referal?

I have to have another scan done at somepoint for a medical reason, just don't know yet when that is. Hope next time I get a different person doing the scan as she really up set me with how rude she was and ruined the experience.

How much is a 3D scan?

You can look it up in your state, there are only 2 places to do it in SA. It cost bout $120 but you get a 20 - 30 minute DVD disk of it too, and pictures.

No referal is needed, you just book in!

Thanks will look into it, sounds interesting. I have seen 3D pics on the net but have never seen it done personally.

Thanks again for all the advice and support:yes:

The place I went to isn't known for the 3D scan. we just asked out of curiosity and the sonographer asked us if we wanted to look at the 3D image. She said they didn't promote it because the 3D images are not very clear most of the time because of all the gunk that is lying around the baby and it's apparently more difficult to capture a 3D image. But I think most of the new machines have the 3D capability.

Also she explained that when they identify a penis, it's pretty much a boy but if they don't see one, they can't be sure it's not a boy because some baby bits are hidden or it hasn't grown big enough yet. I also asked her about the heartrate and she said the heartrate had nothing to do with the gender and that it was an old wive's tale.

I did the same as summerlump. I enquired about 3d and they actually showed me the baby in 3d but couldnt capture a good photo coz bubs was moving so much.

Also when they say it could be a boy...its more than likely to be a boy. Girls they can be unsure about.

hi, the heartrate thing doesn't really work. i believed it too because my bubba's is always around 130/140 and we were quietly hoping for a boy but its a girl, which i have now become very excited about anyway and my daugther wanted a lil sissy (she thinks a brother would be naughty, ha!). my husband is still hoping that it will come out a boy, poor thing is in denial about being surrounded by girls...
