will not put weight on feet

Hi everyone
My son has just turned eight months old and can sit unsupported really well. He is really strong in the legs however he will not put any weight on his feet just curls them in. I went to the CHN and she said that there is know reason why he wont do this except that his brain is telling him to use them like hands! Anyways she has refered me to a physio for my peice of mind only just wondering if anyone else experienced this?

Hi Kate,
my dd is 8.5 months old and also doesn't like to put weight on her feet. Most times she will bend at the knees and make herself floppy. She sometimes stands on one foot, I laugh and call her my little flamingo!!! Very occassionally she will support her weight.

I am not too concerned, as I figure that when she is ready she will begin to support her weight. But I guess if you are concerned you should have someone check it out, even if it is for your own peace of mind.

my DD didn't take her own weight on her legs until 10.5 months, wasn't on the move in any fashion until 12 months, is still bum schuffling around at 15 months, only just started cruising the furniture this week, still cannot get from a sitting to standing position, still cannot get from a lying to sitting position. she is really taking her time about things. i have never for a second been worried about any of it.

i avoid CHNs like the plague because from what i have heard from other ppl, they would only make me worry and send me off to physio's etc and waste my time. i really trust my own instincts on this one and strongly feel there is nothing wrong with her. kids just do things in their own time and if they walk at 10 months, or 14 months or 17 months it really doesn't matter when they're 3 does it??!! :)

try not to worry. he will do it when he's ready :p

I think in my own mind i know he will be ok but it is nice to hear from other people in the same position. So i think i will just relax and enjoy the fact that i can put in one spot and he will stay there happily amusing himself!
