Do you let your kids play with mobile phones??
My DP has a very strict rule about people talking on thier phones while holding our son....and we try to limit his exposure to mobiles as much a possible....do any other parents do this or are we freaks?? :D
We get a bit of eye rolling when we ask people not to use thier phones  while nursing DS and some people dont even know why!!
Does anyone else have a "no mobiles" rule??

I don't limit mobile use near my DS. The only thing I really don't like is people smoking near him. It's probably a little extreme, and begs the question "Where do you draw the line?". I mean, exhaust fumes aren't great for us, but do we ask people to not start their cars near our kids?
Having said that, if I was holding your son and you asked me not to use my phone, I would completely respect your decision. Your son, your choice!

Actually...LOL:laughing: I wouldnt ask them NOT to start their car but I would take DS away from the car....:o
And I dont walk him the pram near busy roads etc...OMG:o
We don't use our mobiles that much. Occasionally Jayce gets on and has a chat with someone but I guess it's something i hadn't really considered.
I can understand where u r coming from, same as walking near busy roads etc. That's one of the reasons we moved to the Sunny Coast, air is bit better.
We can only protect our kids so much. But it's ok to do everything in moderation.

DD plays with our phones a fair bit, she has even broken 2 of them! But she also has an old mobile that she loves to play with.. I agreee with Kiah, everything in moderation.

I wish....... I was strictly against my son touching phones, but not for the same reason, mainly because I dont want them broken.....
Didnt work, as I have a stuffed phone because of him, drooling into the end of it, and ruining some buttons....:banghead: ..
He loves the "Hella" as he calls it.....
I dont talk on my phone while holding him though, as I am a bit cautious, as my mobile interrupts the computers at the post office, and they freeze.....not good......

Wow ok well do you actually drive a car ?
I would be more worried about the fumes you emit every day in that regards.
We dont have a car so walk everywhere & use public transport so i have no choice when it comes to mobile phones or car fumes.
I grew up the same as my mum couldnt drive due to her disability & im doing pretty well ;)

Nope I give my phone to ds to play with.
MMMhh I do wonder what the world is coming to we seem to be worried about an awful lot. I mean we are worried about what nappies are doing to the environment, what we can and can't do with water, how the ozone layer is going, has the food you just gave to your child got too many additives!! We are going to die way before anything happens to us or our kids due to the enviroment, we are going to die OF STRESS!!
We have so many things to worry about, we can never relax and be the parents we want to be!!

Yes we have a car...LOL..
But when we are driving we dont have the windows down especially when a stinky truck or bus is driving near us....
We have a car cause we live where we cant get public transport....and I like having a car...LOL
Seeing as cars are something we all want to have.....I choose to do other things to limit DS exposure to their exhaust fumes...and this is why we moved to NT and will be moving to the country after this to get away from fumey old Brisbane City!!

To be honest im very relaxed....im actually not a neurotic or stressed out mum at all!! (lol...do you beleive me) Its quite simple for me to limit DS exposure to things that concern me...its quite simple for me to do all of those things you mentioned actually....
I was just wondering if other parents do similar things???

There's always something to worry about, it's normal.
Our ancestors used to worry about a sabre toothed tiger eating their babies - I think what we have to be worried about these days pales in comparison
I keep my phone away from my kids... DS because he'll either eat it or accidentally call someone, and DD because she'll get used to it and start asking me to buy her one ;)
I think it comes down to trying to limit exposure to dangerous things. Some things we can't avoid, no matter how we try - but there are some things we can avoid, so we do the best we can.
making sense i am not, so now it's off to bed I trot ;)
Cobey, in fact, has his own play mobile phone (an old one of mine)
He just loves to do as Mummy & Daddy do!
All he'd do is suck on it, short circuit it and make me need a new one.
...
"Hey Turtle, wanna play with my ancient mobile?"
:D
Bugs father calls her on the mobile while Im out on monday nights so I have no choice but to let her use it.
I try my best not to encourage her to touch mine though. Instead I went out to the $2 store and bought her a calculator in the shape of a mobile and that is HER phone

Teeth marks make them feel loved lol just ask mine ;)
Am I such a bad parent that I hate them using them for the cost rather than the ?health probs?
If I was given more info regarding more probs regarding health probs for me, then def no for no kids.
ATM - it's play for DS, a bit - he loves the camera and loves looking for himself on the phone, but for my DSD and DSS, it's obsession about where the phone is and what it's doing which I think is more harmful. I'm one of these people who think there is more harm in psychological things that happen to children than physical things....
When my children get older I figure - why not give them the phones that only phone home for when they're out - I used public phones - WHY DO THEY NEED A REAL MOBILE PHONE FOR SECURITY? THERE ARE SUCH THINGS AS THE PHONES THAT ONLY CONNECT WITH HOME...
Sorry - I'm just so frustrated with the fact that my DH's ex seems to think my step kids need a mobile phone with credit:banghead:

I try to limit my use of mobile phone around my bub. I especially keep a distance when hitting the send button when SMSing and hitting the green button when making a call because they say that's when the radiation or whatever waves/signals the phone emits is more harmful. Yet sometimes it's inevitable to use the mobile close to the bub.
Nevertheless, it's not just mobile phones they say can be harmful. My mom kept reminding me not to stay too long in front of the computer or close to the TV or microwave during my pregnancy because of the radiation. That's rather hard to do! :) Then when bub was born, she nags to remind me not to be too close to the appliances, especially the TV and computer, with the baby.
Whether these gadgets do harm our health or not, I just try to limit exposure. There's no harm in being cautious. But if it's unavoidable, I'll just have to go on with our activity.

the_queen That is what I mean about the sabre tooth tiger and the comparrison. As parents it is our responsibility to worry about things that affect our children, but I just think we have to much to worry about.
