View Full Version : Yoghurt- How often?
My DS is almost 8 months and loves yoghurt. I just wanted to know how often i should be feeding it to him? I'm sure he would eat it everyday if he could but at the moment i am giving it to him maybe every 3 days. Is this ok?
Thanks.

I've been feeding my almost 8mo daughter yoghurt since she was 6 months old. She gets it a couple of times a week (when I can remember to buy it). I think three times a week would be just fine ;)
I give DD yoghurt nearly every day, its the only thing I KNOW she'll eat! At least that way, I know she's eaten something - picky little bugger that she is!! :p
I gave my DS yoghurt every day at that age, he just loved it!
But I always made sure I got the yoghurt designed for little ones as it has no added sugar. :)

Oh, and another thing, make sure that the yoghurt is full fat (which is sometimes hard to find so I've discovered)
Andrew has a baby yoghurt for lunch every day :) He really loves the Vaalia ones
Hi Nicole :)
My O loves the Vaalia ones as well. He would eat them all day if he could!!!!
Thanks for your responses everyone. I was a bit worried that i might be overloading him on yoghurt if he had it every day but you have set my mind at ease. He has been having the Petit Miam Baby yoghurt which he seems to love so i will stick with that for a while.
Thank you.
my son has been eating yogurt nearly everyday since he was 4 months .... he is 3 now and still eats them all the time.....
when he was little i would buy the baby ones and he would eat 1-2 a day and now he eats either a normal sized tub for adults or those little ones.
and i packa tiny one EVERY time he goes to day care for morning tea and another one to have after lunch.
i dont think they can overload on it....lol he doesnt drink milk very often... maybe once a week so we get our dairy from yogurt and cheese.
My DS loves his yoghurt and he usually still gets some everyday. He was breastfed until 2months ago and would only drink a couple of mouthfuls of cowsmilk (refused formula) a day, so it was the best way I could get some calcium into him.
He usually gets whatever fullfat (the kid's nestle ones seem to be fine) that is on special, plus I have some Vaalia on hand. Just some news about the Vaalia one - me DS had (Febrile? - sort of) convulsions from 9months till 16months so visited a paediatrician quite frequently in this time. His paediatrician decided he had a low threshold to infection so told me to give him Vaalia yoghurt as this is the only yoghurt which has live cultures which are still live when they get to your gut. Who knows if this is what helped or if it was just time, but I felt happy giving it to him having had it endorsed by a paediatrician.

My boy often has yoghurt once a day its varies due to what he is being picky about at that particular time he has even had it twice a day no dramas for a week.
They like to go through fads of what they want to eat & my boy decided he would only have yogurt & rice cereal at one stage my clinic nurse said it was ok for a short period just to keep encouraging him with other choices.
Sometimes i buy the baby ones but thats usually just the way the companies get us mothers sucked in as we think its best for baby. Just make sure the yoghurt is full fat plain natural yoghurt. I find bubs loves it plain or if i mix some fruit through for him
Hi guys
My 8 month DD would live solely on yoghurt if she could! She has it at least twice a day, every day! I buy the tubs of plain natural yoghurt and add my own pureed fruit to it. I also add yoghurt to her dinners sometines too. Go the yoghurt! Even if she's a bit off colour, I know she'll eat yoghurt and fruit!
Cheers!
Hey thanks for all the great responses everyone!
I didn't think i could give plain normal yoghurt to DS but now that i know i can, that's what i will do. I can't stand paying so much for the 'baby' yoghurt when there is only a small amount and we go through it too quickly.
With the Petit Miam yoghurt, i would add pureed fruit anyway so here i come plain yoghurt!! :D
my son is 8 months old and has yoghurt every day for morning tea . I just give him the full fat natural greek style . Its cheaper to buy in the 1kg tub than individual portions. However this is the only type i have given him so he is used to the tart flavour. I think if you tried to switch from a sweeter type it would be difficult.
My 8.5mnth old has yogurt everyday. Either for breakfast or mid morning snack.
