Wondering if anyone can help me. I am a mother of two, son who is two and a daughter who is 4 now she suffers badly from constipation.

We have tried parachoc, and within the last couple of days it has failed to work so her belly is quite swollen.

Her diet is quite good being that she has muesli for breakfast, fruit for morning tea and afternoon tea, she eats sultanas during the day as well, so I am at a bit of a loss as to why she has it.

Has anyone been through this situation and know of something that can help.:fingerscrossed:

Thanks

hi, i have not had this happen with my kids, but when I had difficulty after DS1 birth the dietician told me there are 2 types of fibre (?!!news to me) and recommended eating...prunes, pears (peeled) and baked beans. Apparently all the fibre supplements I was taking were clogging me up??

I would talk to your child health nurse though about how much to give.Or see the GP if you are worried.

Prunes do work a treat for me and they are quite tasty.

Good luck.

I would remove the muesli entirely for sloppy and easier to digest weet bix instead. A little teaspoon of sugar on top of the weet bix should get it going through the system too. Muesli can cause alot of farting and pebble like poo. Its quite harsh as a food.

As a previous poster mentioned, baked beans and prunes should do the trick also. Also the fruit she eats should include apples and pears - you can make them into a boiled dessert for her with some cinnamon.

Also - I'm assuming she is not having any probs with using the toilet - i.e. not scared of it or holding it in for any reason.

Good luck

Try buying a bottle of kiwifruit nectar ... this is what is used in NZ hospitals before they will try any medication - it seems to work really well. I have used it with my family.

To help with 'poos' eat fruit with 'p' (this is what my MIL told me)

pears, prunes, plums, peaches...

buy some prune juice, works a trick. make sure she's drinking enough water, because lack of hydration can contribute to constipation.

I agree.. cut out the museli... week bix is good, so is 'all bran' .. a bowl of all bran with a pear cut up and a glass of prune juice would be a good way to start!

Cut out any overly processed or fatty foods... junk food can block you up...

cut out bananas for the time being..

whole grain breads and lots and lots of drinks of water...

If that doesn't help it might be an idea to give her an enema or a suppository... on doctors advice

:smiliedance: To everyone that has posted a reply, thank you very much.

Have been giving my daughter 10mls of Parachoc plus changed her breakfast from muesli back to weetbix with honey and sultanas and it seems to be working for the time being.

Her tummy is still swollen a little bit but because she doesn't burp or pass wind, this will probably take a while to go down.

Again thank you guys very much for your advice and I will keep it if she stops going regularly again.

:hugs:

My son had bad constipation, my GP informed me that too much cows milk causes constipation (he is a milk junkie) so I replaced some of his milk drinks with fruit juice and this seemed to fix the problem in my situation.
