Hi everyone...welcome to my fundraiser for the
Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital in Ethiopia

What is Fistula?
Due to isolation and the high risks of pregnancy and birth in developing countries,a mother with a small or malformed pelvis or a badly positioned child may be in labour for five or more days without help.
As a result of prolonged and obstructed labour, the woman's bladder or vagina is torn so that a hole or fistula is caused in the bladder, and sometimes in the rectum. Usually the baby is stillborn. When fistulae occur, the woman is unable to control the flow of urine or excreta. Because of the objectionable smell associated with the condition these women are mostly rejected by husband and family. They become social outcasts and have a deep sense of rejection and "shame".
Until recently, it was not widely known that the problem could be cured with surgery. It is estimated that as many as three million women suffer from this problem throughout the developing countries of the world.
For more information see www.fistulafoundation.org and www.fistulatrust.org

What are we raising money for?

By donating $580.00 to the Addis Ababa Hospital they can offer a full corrective operation and rehabilitation free of charge to a woman. They also provide them with transport home and a new dress which is made by local women and thus helping to support the local community.
Most of the women treated at the Fistula Hospital are able to return to a normal lifestyle with restored dignity. Some are able to have a child and experience the happy role of a parent.

How can I help?

If 58 members could donate just $10.00 each we could easily raise enough money to sponsor a women so that she could receive the treatment she needs.
The Addis Ababa Fistula Hospital and the Hamlin Fistula Relief Fund are registered charities and all money raised will go directly to the cause.

How does it work?

Bubhub specifies that donations must be made directly to the charity for security reasons. Addis Ababa Hospital has an Australian charity base called the Hamlin Fistual Reliedf & Aid Fund. You can donate the money via their online form if you have a credit card or you can download their donation form and send them a cheque/money order. Please note - when you make a donation, please PM me so that I can keep a running total of how much we have raised.
For online donations go to www.fistulatrust.org/online_donations.html
For cheque/money orders download donation form at
www.fistulatrust.org/how_to_help.html

ALL DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTIBLE AND RECEIPTS WILL BE ISSUED BY THE CHARITY

Amount raised so far: $190.00

Thank you for all of your support:thumbsup: :smiliedance:

Anyone else out there like to help out with raising funds for this charity???????????

Even $5.00 will help, all you need to do is follow the links....

Come on people - we can actively contribute to helping another woman who has gone through all of the trials and tribulations of pregnancy and childbirth and has come out the other side with a life long medical problem and a social stigma...

I know money is hard to come by when you are raising a young family but $10.00 is such a small amount that could help with something really big....

We have raised $90.00 so far, ...any amount will help as it will go towards medical supplies and running costs of the hospital....

If you have any questions or need more info I am happy to help:yes:

So *Just Do It*:D :smiliedance: :yelclap:

Thanks
Karen

Sorry it has been a while since I followed up on this...I have been really flat out of late!

Just wanted to let everyone know what the final tally of the fundraiser was:

$320.00

:smiliedance: :yelclap:

Thank you everyone who donated! Although we didn't raise enough to sponsor an operation, the money was put towards purchasing a vehicle to transport the women to and from the hospital and general running costs for the hospital...

To anyone who would still like to donate - just follow the link in the original post - the hospital would appreciate any help they can get:yes:

Once again thanks everyone:thumbsup:
