What sort of health checks are ideal before pregnancy?

Also, my blood type is A-, Liam is O+ so I had the injection straight after birth. Do I need any injections before pregnancy, and would I need any during pregnancy next time? I didn't have any at all last time.

:hugs:

Not sure about all the checks as I conceived both of mine 'accidently'...

I am a neg blood group too and I have to have a needle at 28 and 34 weeks.

you can get a blood test to check your rubella immunity :)

and if you haven't had chicken pox you could consider the vax ...

as a teacher there is quite a high risk of me being in contact with chickenpox .. so if I hadn't had them I would pay for the vax... (JMO though :D)

Some people like to have a blood test to check their immunity to diseases such as Rubella. If you've had it naturally as a child, though, the test is irrelevant because you'll have natural immunity :)

I guess there's also HIV/STI tests, not that I'm suggesting anything, Cheezy ole buddy ole pal :D but yeah, that is one that I would probably have if I was pre-TTC (because some STI's can lay dormant for a while before rearing their head, and I was a wild young thing at one stage.... )

Diabetes - if I was pre-TTC I'd want a base BSL to compare to any GTT done during pregnancy.

I guess a midwife or an OB/GYN would be able to recommend others.

Cheezy - do you have something you'd like to share with the class? :detective: :p

Absolutely Jen. I have a friend who at 30, got chicken pox last week. She hasn't been able to get out of bed since Friday and is in a real mess. She also has a secondary infection of pleurisy. Very nasty.

The above are great ideas.

Theyre not really necessary, but you can get blood taken to check hormone levels to make sure everything is balanced. You can also do things like get your hair analysed to see if you have any vitamin deficincies...again, thats a bit more extreme and probably not necessary, but its something you can do. :)

Good luck!

OK thanks... I've had chickenpox. When are tetanus shots supposed to be done? I last had one 7 years ago.

Other than that I think everything else is in good way.

Queenie darling, no news for you :D I don't even have AF back yet!

My blood is also A- and DD's fathers is most likely B+ (he refused to take a blood test because he hates needles:rolleyes: ) this meant I had to have a needle at around 27 weeks and 34 weeks. I cant remember exactly when but there was two needles. DD was born with A+ blood.

I had a pap smear done a couple of months before TTC and an ultrasound of my insides but that was because I didn't have an AF for about 2 years and they were checking for problems.

Yep, as far as I remember tetanus lasts for 10 years:thumbsup:

Forgot to say that altho Ive only had Carter, they gave me a shot around 25 weeks, 36 or 37 weeks and then after birth. I am AB-, DH is B+ and Carter was born B+. They will def give you shots throughout the pregnancy, but not beforehand. They also tested for antibodies a couple of times as well to makes sure my body wasnt rejecting the baby.
