Yesterday afternoon I took Elliot to the local swimming pool for a paddle and some practise. We had a lovely time but something has been playing on my mind since. When we went into the change room there was a big sign that said MALES OVER THE AGE OF 5 ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED FROM THIS CHANGE ROOM...

I have "isswews" with this. If Elliot had been say 7 or 8 and I was at the pool just with him and we needed to get changed, there is no way on this earth I would send him into the male change rooms on his own. Can you imagine a six year old going into change himself on his own, let alone the risk of 'naughty people'...

Does anyone else think this is wrong or is it just me???

I agree...no way I'd let my son go into a change room by himself...probably under the age of about 8ish....perverts are everywhere these days...sorry, I'm a bit of a pessimist when it comes to things like this. Of course I would teach him to be respectful and not google at any naked ladies walking around.

same applies to public toilets.

I'm with you. As a single mum of a boy I wonder about this kind of thing all the time.

Absolutely no way would I send a 6 year old in to a public change room on their own. Bugger their sign. The worst they can do is ask you to leave.

That is weird, i would feel uncomfortable sending my DS off to the male changerooms by himself. I'd rather take him home in wet clothes and change when he gets home, or in the car or something....

i dont have a son but if i did no way would i let him, just hearing bad stories about all the "disturbed" people out there. Like the 5yr old at the tennis  bugger the sign i would be doing it anyway or changing at the car!

5 is still very young Frazzled! I seriously would have probably said something to management about that.My DS1 is turning 7 in May and I wouldn't let him go and get changed in a different change room without DH.

Now I probably sound like I'm babying him but I don't even like him going to the men's toilets in the shopping centre on his own.

I won't be letting my DS go into male change rooms / toilets on his own when he is 5  or even 8.

I would take him in the disabled change area, if there was one, so you could go with him.

Agree it is wrong of management to stipulate this, if it was a 13 year old it would be different as they are at that puberty stage.

oh dear ..

I have MASSIVE issues with this .. I'm sorry - but unless they provide facilities for your child to be safely toileted I would be complaining ..

more and more shops are (finally) installing toilets in the parents rooms .. where at least we can check that the room is EMPTY before sending our adorable child in .. :( how sad that we have to worry so much ..

you just cant guarantee to me that the mens toilet would be safe .. so no dad?? no access for my little man ... sigh .. not untill he is at LEAST in high school ..

I'd ignore the sign and if they said anything I would really have a go!
That is just so wrong.

You never know who is in there. Perverts don't have a sign on their forhead stating what they do! How do you know?!

I would be complaining about it, as I'm sure many parents already have. Even though E is till a babe, I would still complain. I would complain if I saw it and I have 2 girls! that is just so wrong!

What is a 6 year old or an 8 yr old or even a 10 yr old gonna do if they went in with their mum??? Perve on all the women?? I don't think so!

Completely agree, I think it is absolutely disgraceful that they are not providing adequate facilities for mothers of boys and fathers of girls who like to go out and enjoy activities together...... It is such a shame:shame:
