Hi All,
My name is Kerry and I had my DD Charlotte by C/S on 23/12/06.
I have a few feelings that I want to share about my c/s.
Early on in my pregnancy my GP was giving my a check over and she sat me down and told me that she wanted the hospital to take over my care as she thought that I was gto need a c/s. My mother had pre eclampsia with all three of her children and she thought that my blood pressure could be an issue. Also she explained that as I am very short it could be an issue whilst trying to give birth. (??)
I was really upset about this and went and talked to the obstetrician at the hospital along with the midwives whom were all against the idea of a c/s and said that there is no reason that I couldn't give birth naturally.
My labour started at 8:30pm 22/12/06, we stayed at home until 11:30when the contractions were 3 mins apart. When we arrived at the hospital I was 5cm dilated. I then had 7 hours of 3 minute contractions.
I pushed for three hours but to no avail. I kept insisting that something was wrong. I was told that all women say this and that it was just part of the labouring process. I kept insisting and they finally put the monitor on the baby. Everytime I was contracting the babies heart rate dropped to 70 bpm. Finally they realised that something was wrong and took me off for an emergency c/s.
The baby was taken straight off to the nursery, I got to see her for about a minute, my husband wasn't even allowed to go with her to the nursery.
She was in a humidi crib for the first day of her life as she wasn't getting enough oxygen, the cord was wrapped around her neck and this is what stopped the oxygen and her journey down the birth canal.
I wasn't able to get up for 24hrs and she couldn't come to me so I had had a baby but couldnt see her.
I wonder if my GP was right all along but was just dismissed, I wonder why no one listened to me when I said something was wrong in the first place.
I lost alot of blood during the c/s and this then caused me problems with being able to breast feed, my daughter is bottle fed as my supply never came in properly.
I am really disappointed about how I was treated, I felt like 2nd rate patient because I had to have a c/s.
This was totally traumatic and has left me doubting the hospital in which I had my baby.
Sorry to rant
