Hey all

I think Ive got the 'Working mum blues'. I currently work two days a week which is fine as I still get plenty of time with my little man. However next year I will be working three days a week and Im so NOT looking forward to it.

I feel like one of my days at home with O will be taken up with cleaning and stuff and then I only have one day to spend with him!

I really wish I could be a sahm but I know that isnt an option for us (as financially we cant afford it) plus I feel selfish coz I know DH would feel alot of pressure if he was the sole $$$ earner.

Just feeling BLUE and needed to vent.

Thanks all

S

Hi orlandosmum,

I so understand how you are feeling! I work full-time and I hate that I don't get to spend the amout of time I'd like with DS.

I don't know if it's an option, but we were using a cleaner once a week so I didn't have to spend my weekend on that and not with DS, was defiantely money well spent. Although at the moment, having just bought our own place, we're in the middle of painting so haven't got the help which is very stressful come weekend time.

Sometimes I think I'd love to be a SAHM too, but it's definately not financially possible :(

Vent away, and hope you feel better soon :)

I was working 3 days per week for 2 years after DD#2 was born, following 12months of maternity leave. This year with her being in full time kinder, I made the decision to work 4 days per week.

3 days per week is nice - a day for running about, and a day just to be mum. I loved it. By comparision, 4 days per week with DD#2 at kinder on my day off is just awful. I feel like I run all day on my day off, and DH still wonders why I haven't got everything done - but I get some exercise, shop (groceries - not anything interesting), wash, cook, pick up the girls - and at that time, the day is just about over, and now I'm quite pregnant, too, at that point I am spent. I really should be trying to get some study done on that day off as well.

After baby #3 is born, and I have finished my maternity leave, you better believe I'm sticking to no more than 3 days per week again.

Awww Sarah - don't be sad ! :(

I know what you mean though - we just want to spend every waking minute with our little guys. I work 5 days per week - I'd love to work 3. Then again, I have pretty flexible work arrangements so I'm pretty lucky.

I feel the same about wanting to earn an income so DH doesn't feel like the entire weight of our family is on his shoulders (although he has pretty big shoulders :D LOL).

I don't know what the right answer is. As mums, we can just do our best ! :)

Hi Sarah,

I know how you feel but try to understand that you will still be spending the majority of time every week together. And the days he is at care, he's learning and having fun....plus there's that great Mummy downstairs so if he ever needed you, you'd be there in a flash.

I had a really hard time going back to work. I realised that it was because I knew life when I had no kids and worked full time. Then I knew life when I had a baby and didn't work full time. To me, going back to work felt like saying goodbye to being a mummy. Not true of course but very stressful at the time.

Just think...you'll be able to buy that new dishwasher so you can spend more time with O on the days off ! :D
