Hi
I have been searching for a site like this for ages - only took me 18months to find it ! Moved here from Herts 18 months ago and love Melbourne but REALLY miss my girls back home - girls who share same sense of humour and like to have a good night out sometimes ! anyone else feel the same? I said goodbye to parents again last week and it kills me every time.....we are in limbo completely as to whether we wanna be here or not....would love to chat to all you girls anyhow - from reading the posts you all sound like a fab bunch ! Clare x
Hi Clare:wave:
I know exactly how you feel, I really miss my friends and family as well.
I was talking about this with another UK mum the other night and we were saying that to go back to the UK would be really hard as life is very easy here. DH can cycle to work, most of my friends husbands in the UK commute an hour and a half each way:eek: so the kids never see their fathers. We have a nice house, probably could only afford a shoebox in England now, and the schools are good. If only we could transport our friends and relatives out life would be perfect.
I started out in Melbourne, loved it by the way, am now in South Australia:rolleyes:
Look forward to chatting with you
Big :hugs: for you for having to say goodbye to your folks
I read the thread title and thought you were in Brighton ... you know, the pebble beach Brighton in the UK :o Spent many a painful school outing there!
Anyway, welcome!
I moved here from London  7 years ago! Has it really been that long?! Wow! As you can see - time does indeed fly! I still miss home, though, and I think I will go back at some point. That's the reason I haven't got Australian Citizenship yet - I might up-skirts-and-run :p
Do see if there are any buhub meetups in your area - everyone I've met so far has been lovely! Having a few mums to chatter with and meet for cuppa is really lovely. Lots of people also do Adults Only (AO) meetups where they go for dinner, drinks and a dance. Apparently, they are a hoot.
There are a lot of ex-pat Brits around on bubhub, there's even a section for it somewhere, so I'm sure you'll come across familiar humour while you're here! Have fun!

Hi Clare.
We've been here for about a year. We too came from Herts. The Watford area.
I feel like you. I am really enjoying it here but don't know if I want to make it long term. Some days I'm in love with the place and other days I just want to return to the UK and miss our good mates and family. I've met some lovely people here too so would miss them if I returned the the UK.
Be nice to live between the two countries but I'm not that rich unfortunately.
I too thought of Brighton in the UK. I felt a bit nostalgic when the Fat Boy Slim concert was on TV here recently.

Hi Clare
I'm off to Herts next Monday!! Staying with my sister in Abbots Langley. I konw what you mean about girlies - I miss my girlie nights out. And as for saying good bye to my parents, it kills me too so I know how you feel and I usually spend most of the flight back here crying . Whereabouts in Herts are you from? I'm from Amersham originally in Bucks.

Hi Ince
Lovely Watford!!! My BIL goes to all the home games and it was my main shopping area for years.
I'm off to the UK next week and am excited but also down about it if that makes sense  I'm already down about having to leave there - sounds stupid doesn't it? Don't worry I'll be making t he most of it whilst I'm there. Lots of travelling around my parents moved to Devon last year so can't just stay with them if I want to see everyone.
Bye:wave:

Hi All
I have been thinking this forum has been quiet recently...I joined after this threaf started but agree with many. I miss home but we have an easier more affordable lifestyle here in The Hunter.
DH and I are/were pretty big on nights out in Leeds and don`t find them the same here. We are always weighing up the pros and cons of being here and so far are happy to forsake what we miss for the kids.
My eldest is 16 and off to the UK to do A levels in Jan 08 but her opinion is she wants to go back but will bring her kids up here!! She must know what we mean.
Gail I am sure will see you on other threads but have a fab time!!!

Hiya
Just like you i have now found this site, I live in Geelong which is only about an hour from you which in this huge country is not to bad.
We moved from Cambs just over 5 weeks, and I miss my friends more than anything, and just like you I would love to have a good night out in Melbourne, so if you are still around and fancy it, email me on handmadeleine@yahoo.co.uk.
I also have two kiddies, Lauren who is 4 1/2 and George my very own siren who is 18 months.
Love to hear from you
Maddie

Hi Claire,
I moved out here nearly 6 years ago with DH (who's from Melbourne) I got terribly homesick after 18 months but this did pass - of course I still miss my family and friends but do regard Melbourne as home (and indeed a great place to raise children - my first is due in Jan!) Only live 5 mins from you so send me a message if you ever feel like a chat!

PS Lived in Herts for 2 years!

Hi All
I can't believe I never noticed this section even though I've been a member here for yonks!
I'm also from Herts - Bushey to be exact and I now live in Melbourne. I can totally relate to the feeling of homesickness you all have. We are pretty torn at the moment about where we want to be since DD came along.
Won't waffle too much - do any of you meet up at all? I notice this thread's pretty old.
