View Full Version : Hello from London
Hi All,
After reading many of your posts I thought it was about time I introduce myself.
I am originally from Brisbane but moved to London over 12 months ago with my DP. I am 24 and my DP is 27. We have been together for 5 years.
I don't have any children but am starting to think about when I would like to start trying ( I find that I have been extremely clucky lately!!). My DP and I have discussed this but are still not sure when we should have children.
So that is why I am here- to read other women's thoughts on pregnancy and motherhood ( the good and the bad) to help me decide whether we are ready or not.
I look forward to talking to you all and reading your thoughts and experiences.
Hi Clio,
Welcome! I hope you find all the discussion you read helpful.
It is certainly a good idea to go into parenting with your eyes open - we all love our kids, and love being parents, but there are frustrating and difficult times - and it will make it much easier for your and your partner to get through those times if you know what to expect, and can get support from those who have been there before you!
All the best,
Tully
Hi there! :)
Welcome! And I hope you find heaps of great advice and friendly people (which I'm sure you will!!) :D

Good evening Clio, welcome to HubBub, make yourself home and enjoy your stay!
I'm from the UK originally, I came to Australia to finish my Law degree but I ended up got married to one of the best lads from Down Under :)
I have 9 months old-crawling-everywhere who loves to turn the house upside down Thomas!
See you around yeah :D
M
Thankyou all for your warm greetings
ThomasMum- when did you move to Australia? Do you enjoy it there? I sometimes really miss home but am enjoying it over here ( apart from the weather) :)

Hey Clio, 1997 was the year :) Yes I do. Ive got my Citizenship in 2001 (I still have my Brit passport of course! :)) I call Australia, my home now. I do get homesick now and then as you do, but thankfully we go to UK to visit at least once every year or sometimes my family came to Australia to visit, I miss my English crappy weather of course lol, so we can swap the "homesick" feelings if you like, anytime! :D

Welcome Clio.
When you do decide to start trying come and join the ttc threads, we all support and help each other through to tides of emotions that seen to come with trying to have a baby.
Good luck and hope to see you around the boards.
Well it is freezing over here, i thought last year was cold but apparently this year will be worse. On the news the other day they did forecast snow in london monday night (21st) and tuesday morning (22nd) but I think that has changed now- it didn't snow in london last year until february/ march. I am used to the hot, humid weather in Brisbane so I am suffering. Luckily I will be having a holiday in Australia next year. I can't wait. I mainly miss the weather and the food.
My partner has dual citizenship (British as well as Australian)- due to his parents being British citizens. I am currently on a work visa but am applying for the spouse visa. Once that is approved I will be a permanent resident and then I will look into becoming a citizen.
Welcome to bubhub :D
I am also English but live in Sydney DB is an Aussie tho, we're thinking of moving back to London again early 2007 (yes 07 lol planning far to much for me) I have to say I despise the British weather!
I can safely say I am also not a fan of English weather. I was in pain yesterday (Sunday) when I went shoppping as I didn't have any gloves on- my fingers were red raw and numb.
We really didn't have a summer over here so I didn't feel ready for winter again- plus it is so dark in winter. It is depressing.
But there is a positive side to living over here.
the location- it is so close to Europe and USA and is also very cheap to travel. Allows you to escape the English weather!!
the shopping- a wide variety of stores to shop in.

ps good luck with the visa-PR stuff! altho I dont think you need any lol, we didnt have any problem with Joshua's application whatsoever!
We came over in August and twas lurvely lol compared to what it can be like!! I was shocked!
Bet yep you're so right about being close to Europe I can't wait for that bit! Taking the kids on nice holidays and seeing old stuff lol
We have decided to embrace the cold this Christmas and go on a skiing holiday in Switzerland. My DP insisted we go away this year so I have left it up to him to plan, which worries me a bit.
I have never been skiing so I am preparing to make a fool of myself :D
I would love to go to Bavaria- it is on the list!

I am sure I won't have a problem with making a fool of myself :D
skiing in Switzerland should be lovely. Do you know what ski resort you are going to? Zurich looks gorgeous at Christmas time as well as you should find some Christmas markets there as well (not as good as the ones in Germany but close enough)

I am not sure where we will be staying. DP is planning the trip- all I know is that we are going skiing in Switzerland.
Hi Clio
Welcome....Your making me homesick :D , I lived around London for years. Started off in Kingston then, New Malden, Chessington, Earlsfield and then Harrow or "arrow innit" depending on your accent! Where abouts are you??
My poor old mum was moaning that its dark at 4pm,. Also with the cold weather all the mice in the district have decided that her loft will be nice and cosey  I couldnt believe they'd get into a loft but apparently they scuttle through the pipes.
Good luck with the skiing-my hot tip is get some private lessons, expensive but well worth it. You'll learn more in one private lesson than in a week of ski-school. Ski school is fun and a great way to meet people but I definately sneak in a couple of private lessons just to get the one-on-one.
More news of London....please
I live in Wanstead. We like it here and have just signed a contract to purchase a house.
I am really not enjoying the dark gloomy weather. Not only does it get dark early, we also had a thick fog come over around 3:30 this afternoon which made it even worse. Luckily we haven't had any encounters with mice!!!
I have a friend coming to stay in a couple of days. She is flying over from Australia and will be living in Edinburgh for the next few years, but first she will be staying with us so I can show her the sights. She is really going to suffer from the cold as she will be coming from Brisbane. I have been emailing her weather updates and she is a little concerned as she arrives in London at 5am- so we will be off shopping the next day after she arrives to buy her some warm clothes.

Today was a nightmare, I drive a motorbike to work everyday and its about 30 miles. There was ice and I don't know how I made the journey in one piece, when I got there my hands were so cold I couldn't feel them
