View Full Version : Bio Oil??
Hi guys,
Has anyone here used bio oil to prevent stretch marks?? I'm willing to give it a go if it's going to mean reduced stretch marks at the end, but it contains vitamins E and A. Does anyone know if this is safe to use during pregnancy?? DH wants me to wait until the next ob visit to ask (5 weeks away!!!).
Thanks!
i used cocoa butter cream....i got not 1 stretch mark:thumbsup:

cocoa butter doesnt relly work...imo.
bio oil does work i have found to reduce the appearance of stretch marks after pregnancy. i dont know if it prevents them before you get them as i didnt know about bio oil when i was pregnant last year and ended up gettin them badly. used cocoa butter and cocoa butter formula everyday but didnt do squat!
but there are conflicting reports about whether its safe during pregnancy, i think it tells you on the bottle that it is but people on here say otherwise. i will be using it during this pregnancy.
I used a body shop body butter for DS and regretted it. This time I am using Palmer's cocoa butter and Bio-oil, one in the morning and one at night. A friend used Bio-oil the first time around and didn't get any stretch marks

I used body shop body butter with DS and got no stretch marks, didn't really use much properly with DD, and got stretch marks. I am using body butter again this time, but seriously there is NOTHING that can prevent stretch marks, if you gonna get em you will...
There are a lot of places that do laser on them after pregnancy now though, if you really hate them, thats the only ay i know that seriously reduces them!

I agree nothing can prevent stretch marks. If ur gunna get.......u'll get em!
Last pregnancy I used cocoa butter and bio oil religeously from 8weeks and believe me.....I have stretchmarks!! Bio oil helped keep them clear tho....if I didnt use it for a few days they'd go pink.
Ive heard some1 say they would use bio oil while pregnant but they advertise it as a pregnancy thing. I used it but I cant tell u if medically it's considered ok.

I used it through my entire pregnancy...it's great stuff. My DS just got way too big for me so I got a few little stretch marks around my belly button and on my breasts...but I would still recommend Bio Oil

I read somewhere that you can help prevent stretchmarks by eating foods high in vitamin C and bioflavonoids..ie. fruits and veges...
Bio oil is great and pure cocobutter. The key is eating right and only gaining the weight that contributes to the bub. Eat lots of raw veg, or just steamed veg, chicken, fish, lean meat and wholegrains. U will not have a prob at all with your skin.

People- don't feel bad if you get stretchmarks, it does not mean you've done the wrong thing!!!
I have them, and I've actually lost body fat in the initial baby-building stage, and I am pretty good at watching what I eat too. Some of us happen to have delicate skin, prone to scarring, and prone to stretchies :o
Thanks for all the advice... have been using palmers up until now, but wanted to use the bio oil as well. still haven't really found out if it's 100% safe, so might wait and ask the doctor. Also, have just found out i wasn't sposed to use insect repellent, but used it when we were camping for a week when i was 8 wks pregnant. now i'm paranoid...... will have to discuss that one with the dr aswell.

I am 15 weeks pg and am using bio-oil everyday. Personally I think the chemicals that are in most soaps are probably worse than whats in bio-oil.
Good luck with the pregnancy by the way! :D

i agree with bluegin!!
saying if you eat 'these foods' then you'll be fine is so completely wrong!! i gained 10kgs with dd#1, 17kg with dd#2 and so far 11kgs with dd#3(no stretch marks on my belly.. only a few on my hips/bum and most of them came from puberty!) and i think it more so has to do with where your body holds the weight.. some carry it all over.. some in certain areas and some just have skin that doesnt want to stretch!!
its definately not something to beat yourself up about and dont go stressing over a specific diet.. thats just plain silly!
i hope you have a great pregnancy! stretchmarks or no stretchmarks!

Have to say I think the whole special diet=no stretchmarks is a load of tripe.
Dunno about everyone else - but I like enjoying pregnancy - not stressing about a diet in case I get stretch marks.
I had a crappy diet full of chocolate, pork crackle, and post-mix Coke. I have bugger all stretch marks. Didn't use any creams either - I was given some, they are in my drawer still.
Just enjoy your pregnancy and learn to see any stretch marks that you get as service stripes. Medals of Honour if you will.:D

I have heard if your gonna get them your gonna get them! Ask your mother if she got them and you may have your answer...
having said that as soon as I found out I was pregnant I started using Bio Oil in the nights, on BBs, tummy, lower back, bottom & thighs. Its too messy to use in the mornings so i just use it in the nights and am planning to use cocoa butter in the mornings. It does rub in and doesnt stain anything but i wouldnt want to be getting dressed for the day after it!
The vitamin A wont hurt you, Vit A in excess can only harm if you take it by mouth (IYKWIM). As the product is also made (in part) for use by pregnant women then Im sure you can trust it.

i believe whether you get stretchmarks depends on your skin/genetics, not your diet or the creams you use.
i have been using cocoa butter most days (palmers or body shop) and i don't have too many but i do have some and i think they would have been the same even if i hadn't used any. i think i just like rubbing my belly!! LOL.
i might try the bio-oil after as i have heard lots of people say it helps with healing. but we'll see. i figure the only person who sees my belly is my DH and he doesnt care about a couple of little marks, anyway!! (or if he does, he would never be game to say so! )
