Sorry in advance for the length of this, and super sorry if its a bit all over the place...my brains pretty mushy!
On monday i had an appointment with the day stay clinic at the hospitsl to discuss possible induction and to check how bub was going. I was only 7 days over and baby had plenty of fluid and i was having some contractions so doctor was happy to let things go a bit longer and booked me in again for the wednesday.
Monday night i was very flat thinking he was never going to come...haha! At 1am i got woken by painful contractions that were about ten minutes apart. I timed them till they were about 6 minutes apart and 40 seconds long till i called bubs dad. He ran from his house at 2.30am arriving looking very white!!!! We timed them for a few hours and they became stronger and longer but remained about 5 minutes apart. I went upstairs to tell my housemtes, who were driving me to hospital that things were starting. They went to work and bubs dad and i started to sort out hospital things. Word got around that i was having contractions and i started to get lots of visitors! Its quite difficult to hold a coversation when every 5 minutes the wind is knocked out of you! By mid afternoon i felt ready to go to the hospital, so my housemates and bubs dad and a couple of friends all pilled into a beat up van and off we went. On the way a guy riding a bike started trying to chat me up by waving and calling out to me....very absurd as i swore through contractions!!!!
I got sent to the birth suite and monitored and they were satisfied that things were happening as my contractions were now 3e minutes apart. after a few hours the midwife was a bit concerned and decided to check me and i was only 1-2cm dialated. I have never felt so depressed. I was told that bubs was posterior and not moving down the birth canal. They decided to send me home with Panadine Forte and Valium to let me get rest. This was about 9pm Tuesday night. I got a cab home and tried to rest but the pain was too much. bubs dad tried to rest and i gritted through contractions till about 3 am Wednesday when i decided that enough was enough and i coulnt do it anymore. I woke up bubs dad and we called the hospital who told me to come back. Bubs dad borrowed the van and drove much better than i expected!
At the birth suite i got checked and i was still only 3 cm dialated. I was given Morphine and started to be told that i would be monitored but they were going to get a doctor to talk about intervention. Thwe morphine helped me rest between contractions but i was so scared about intervention. Eventually a doctor came, gave me a stretch and sweep and said bubs wasnt moving so i would bew sent to the ward to be monitored and if nothing happened then my waters would get broken. So at 8pm Wednesday night i went to the ward and got told that my support person had to go home. I got given more panodine and told to try and rest. I was so scared and lonely. I tried to doze but it didnt work. bubs dad went to my grandparents to wait for a call.
At 11 pm i had 2 huge mindblowing contractions and rushed to the tiolet, only to feel a pop and see my waters break. I have never been so excited!!!! Bubs dad got called and i started the long waddle to the birthing suite. When i got there bubs dad was running down the corridore. He had made it to the suite before me!!!!!
The earth shattering contractions continued and i was checked and i was 7-8 cm....sooooo exciting. I was pretty exhausted and requested some pain relief. I had a bit of Morfine which helped me keep it together.
Bubs had turned himself around and i started to feel a big urge to push. I was swinging off bars on the walls screatching and then i started to feel like i wanted to poo. The midwife started to get her stuff organised and after about 2 hours of regular pushing sensation it became pretty full on and more midwives were called in. I got on all fours and just let rip! I was howling and pushing. I felt a huge burning sensation and i started to hear bubs dad going oh my god! After about 10 minutes i heard someone say that the head was nearly out, but his chin was still in. After about 3 more pushes i had the biggest relief as bub literally slipped out at 5.36am Thursday morning!
Most amazing experiance of my life! Bub and i just stared at each other for ages. The feeling i felt when i saw him is indescribable. bubs dad was in the corner just staring and going whooaarrr.
We left the cord pulsating before it got but then i delivered the plasenta.
It was a huge labour but all good in the end. A midwife told me after that she had sent me to the ward to keep me away from the doctors. Aparently the doctor had been on his way up to break my waters and she stopped him, knowing that i would probably have a roll on effect of intervention and i wanted it as natural as possible.
I cant thank the midwives enough and bubs dad. They were so supportive. I didnt need stitches, just had a small tear and grazes and i know that was due to the midwifes letting me push when i wanted and letting my body do its thing.
Ok so it was long....if you made it this far, sorry!
