Hi All..
My DH and I are going out of town with DS on Monday. I am expressing some milk now for the trip and I know we will be going out monday night. My question is should I freeze the milk tonight and thaw it on Monday day (when we go to the airport i'm sure it will thaw then it will go straight to the hotel fridge) or is it going to be alright in the fridge and not being in the fridge for a few hours then back into the fridge ... we are going from Melbourne to Adelaide.
I am doing this as I have troubles expressing I can only express about 30ml at a time and bubs it drinking a lot more than that so I thought if I combine my milk during the day I should get at least 60ml and if I express today and tomorrow I might have enough for the babysitter and a buffer just in case he needs more...I wont be able to have time to express on monday I will be fully bfng though.

A great way to express more (you'll probably need hubby's help for this) is to express from one side while feeding from the other. When DD was very small I had to express at every feed, and I found this to be the best way to get the most milk.

I wouldn't have it out of the fridge for longer than 20 minutes, that's my personal opinion I don't know the science of how long is "safe" etc (The ABA website should have some info on that though) but do you have an insulated bag, put a freezer brick thingo in there with it, and it should stay very cold in there. Ideally you'd want it to be frozen until it needs to be used.

You might want to check with the airport though, regarding security - we're probably not as "paranoid" here in Australia but I know that in the US a lot of pumping mums have had big hassles getting containers of EBM through security. Just check with the airport what their policy is.

I would leave it frozen as long as possible and carry it in an insulated bag.
