DS is close to 10 monmths old - and chews / gums pretty well with his few teeth. Can he have a cooked sausage to "gnaw" on? Is beef saussy ok?

My DS would eat them but gag a bit on the skin. When I took the skin off them, he would chomp away happily. :)

I have given them to my kids from early on.

The thing I would do is watch very closely as with them being very soft in the middle, they are likely to have little bits come off that bub may gag or choke on. Taking the skin of is a great idea!

I cut them into quarters lengthways - ie little bit size pieces like quarters of pies. There have been incidents of children choking on sausages just cut into little circle pieces - the kids haven't developed a good enough chewing reflex and the size is right to block the windpipe. A little one died in Nth Qld this way last year.

Hi Lucy
I think I let my DD try sausages at this age, but I do agree with MMia, cut them up so that they aren't little circles. I usually cut them in half length wise and then into little bits. A lot of kids can gum food really, he'll let you know whether he's ready.

Cheers

I just gave Jakob a half sausage whole & he loved it but he did choke once on the hard bit on the end so i suggest cutting off the ends & keep a close eye on bub... good luck.
