I am just starting my 4.5 month old on Karicare HA - AR Formula and need a little advice.
What is the go with making up formula and keeping it in the fridge till needed and then heating it in the microwave. Can you do this?
Also how long can you keep a made bottle at room temp?
Thanks
Ok, well you can make up the bottles put them in the fridge.. some formulas can last 12-24 hours this way. You can then heat it in the m/wave. Milk is safe for 1 hour.
This is how I do it...
make up the bottles but only with the water (no formula) and put in the ridge. WHen its feed time I heat the water in the m/wave then add formula. Formula is good for 1 hour.
Hope this helps.

I used to fill my bottles with water and nuke when needed, then add the formula and shake well.
If I did have some in the fridge, I would just nuke, then shake well.
When out and about, I'd fill the bottles with hot water.........by the time baby was hungry, the water was at the right temp so I wouldn't have to spend 2hrs hunting down a microwave (parents room here has no microwave).
When my kids were patients at the New Childrens Hospital at Westmead, we were told formula was only good for 30mins at room temperature.

microwaving heats bottles up unevenly so you need to remember to give them shake before offering it to bub and check the temp to be sure it isnt too cold or too warm. the most recomened way is to use a cup of hot water but this does take a while:laughing:
I bottle fed my ds1 from birth, what i used to do as he was on ver frequent feeds for some time, was i would boil the kettle make up 6-10 bottles at once (these were those tiny bottles lol) and then make up the formula and whack them all in the fridge:D it should say on the tin how the brand recomendes storage times and how to heat up etc

it depends on the type of milk from what i learnt in my food handlers course last year, dairy milk and most formulas last for 1 hour before bacteria reaches unsafe levels.
if you keep reheating it every 30 mins it makes it very unsafe and the nasties will be having a party:party:

Thanks for the info everyone. I find it easiest to make up the bottles in the morning and leave them in the fridge, I then nuke them when needed. The tips for going out are good - taking the bottle with hot water, will definately do that.
