:smiliedance: If not on a special diet during gestation period. What foods makes heavier birth weight babies at birth for their age? I think many mums & mums to be would like to know because low birth weigh babies could spell undue medical problems r/t to various physiological issues. Something neutral be nice...no junk food Thanks 118:yes:

I think that if you're generally healthy, then the baby will be born healthy - at it's optimal weight. Some babies optimal weight is only around the 8 pound mark. Some have an optimal weight on the bigger side, 9 or 10 pounds. Some are made to be more delicate, 6 or 7 pounds. It depends on genetics, largely.

Smoking during pregnancy will give baby a lower birth weight.

what you eat and what you don't eat doesn't really have a effect on bubs size, the dad plays a huge part in size, so mostly its genetics, there probably is some foods that have a effect on size but nothing has been proven as such

My DD was born 7lb 1oz. I'm a small build and her father is also. I would say genetics plays a large part in the size of your bubs. Oh, my DD was 8 days early. So also depending on when bubs decides to make an entrance into the world.

Well I think that if you eat a lot of non-organic chicken you might possibly have a large baby. All the steriods and hormones and junk they inject into them :barf:

Theres a girl in my mothers group who has a 4 month old who is still in newborn nappies which goes to show how small she is. But I'm sure she is very healthy, just comes down to genes I reckon.

I'm just destined to have big babies. My diet was pretty crappy during my first pregnancy due to being sick and I had a huge baby.

I'm only small, but DH is 6ft 2, FIL is the same and his brother is 6ft 5, so genetics plays a part too.

I think the only time that what foods you eat effects the size of bub is if you have gestational diabetes ...

Having said that, I had gd with both of my bubs, one was born at 37 weeks weighing 8lb 7oz the other born at 36 weeks was an absolute whopper at over 13lb.

My diabetes was better controlled with my 2nd pg, so I guess he was just going to be big ... :(

i had a big birthweight baby and although i had GD, i think it came down to DP's genes more than anything. coz if DS being big had anything to do with the GD, he would have been a chubby baby then and a chubby baby now, which he wasnt and isnt. he is still a large baby but far from chubby. he was then and now is tall more than anything. and has dads large shoulders and small waist.

DP has a large build, he is naturally built and has very large shoulders and muscular arms and legs, although carrying a little extra around the middle lol.

DS is every bit like DP only he has my eyes so he looks more like me.

so yes i think genetics plays a huge part in how your baby will turn out, although its not always the case.

my first 2 babies were 8lbers, and i was told that it depended on mum and dads weight at birth!, well i was 8 something and dh was 6ish! so needless to say after getting my hopes up for a smallish baby (smaller than 8lb) was bad!
as for #3, well he came a tad early - oh only 8 weeks! but i do believe he was big for a 32 weeker, being 4lb 12oz, (well all the nurses didnt believe he was only 32 weeks)
