Has anyone experienced hair loss after pregnancy????

Yup!

When Tayla was exactly 4 months old, my hair started falling out in clumps. All those happy pregnancy hormones start to disappear and your head loses the hair it was holding onto for that lovely pregnancy thick and luscious look!

My hair is only starting to recover now with lots of little sprouts everywhere!

Hi my hair was falling out and I was getting worried it stopped after 3 mths. This never happened to me with my first two only my third. It was pregnancy related

My sister often looses her hair it's stress related she was told that it takes around 3mths after a stressful time for your hair to fall out. Once she starts noticing her hair falling out, thinks back 3mths she can always find that stressful time. Mine has all come back.
But my sister has lost a lot that has never came back she's been losing her hair this way from childhood.
Good luck it will stop so try not to stress

yep. my hairdresser told me this might happen and sure enough it all came true! DS was about 3 months old and it wasn't falling out in clumps, i just found my hair all over the place including on DS. Probably stopped after a couple of months.

I did with all 3 of mine. For almost 6 months after! Thankfull I have horrible thick hair when pregnant so I don't mind losing some :p !

It's got something to do with the hormones. It will settle so don't worry too much.

DS is 4 months old and for the last month I have been moulting (sp?) all over the place - v. normal so I'm told, also by my hairdresser!

I lose handfuls every day for the first 8-9 months after the end of my pregnancy!

The funny thing is that although my hair gets a little bit thinner, it doesn't really make much of a difference!

My hair is falling out by the brush full  which is a shame because i normally have very fine hair and through the preg it got so thick and luxurious!!! Oh well!!!

I'm sure that if you walk behind me i have a huge bald spot :D good thing i can't see the back of my head LOL

Apparently you don't loose any hair during pregnancy so when the hormones go back to normal your head sort of catches up!! So you are only loosing hair you would have lost anyway!

Yeah it's quite common for hairloss after birth!!

I'm a hairdresser so I learnt all about it at college....

Your body has been through a major shock & it takes your body on average about 3 months to respond to it. Usually hairloss happens. It is also common if you have a major operation or are in an accident or stress..........the list goes on!!

I started losing my hair after ds was born about 2 or 3 months on... I got bald patches in the front  and had to have my hair cut really short!! I cried for a few days!!!!

I must be the exception to the rule. My hair grew decidedly thicker during pregnancy and I'm still waiting 7 1/2 months later for the hair loss to start. Now I have much thicker hair. I think I need a haircut :)

 Oh, thank goodness - I'm not the only one!! I actually got on this site today to see if I could find anything about hair loss. Mine started falling out when my baby was 12 weeks old. He is now 17 weeks old. There is hair EVERYWHERE!!! I try to only brush my hair in the bathroom, that way it is easy to pick up, but it is all over the house. The worst part is it gets wrapped around bubs fingers (and sometimes in his nappy. I don't know how).

Oh well, at least I can stop thinking that I am a freak!! :p

hey, a friend of my dads who has a couple of children is very bald, she has not too much hair at all, this was pregnancy related also. It however did not grow back, her children are adults now.:(

I have a different problem, sence being pregnant I now have a hair belly:eek: it looks like little pubs on my belly, not very attractive at all.:( I'll be catching up to my husband soon.
anyone else get a hairy belly from pregnancy and is it likely to go away. ( I doubt it!)

Yeah I too have lost lots of hair since having my DS... My hairdresser says that it should stops once I stop breastfeeding.. Not too worried, I have heaps of hair and can afford to loss a little, although my hair loss hasn't made any difference to my hair..

Yeah I too got hair on my belly while pregnant and 7 months on it is nearly all gone.. I had some hair on my belly before I got pregnant, but it got really bad while pregnant.. Thank god it is now gone, I didn't really want to start waxing it

My hair is horrendously thick normally & only got worse through pregnancy so ive always lost handfuls at a time my mum hated it when i was younger & still lived at home cause my hair was everywhere hehehe. So im not noticing much difference so i guess im not much help but i know my old ex next door neighbour lost hers bad but it all came back with both babies !
Johnnyplasma - Yep i got that & not only on my tummy but i got it on my neck for gawd sakes !!!!!! WTH !!!!! Whatever you do dont touch it ! Leave it be i found probably by the 3rd week after bubs was born it started to fall out & that was that. I was also told by a midwife & same as a friend of mine that as its just hormonal hair if you do wax it now it encourages it to come back whether thats true or not im not sure but i didnt want to take the chance ! Anyways it does go away well mine did & im sure yours will also :)

thanx silla and ally.
I hope it does go away, it doesn't look as though it will. Oh well I have stretch marks anyway so it's not like im gonna be showing off my belly anyhow.
Although I'm sure it's not nice for my hubby to look at.:(

Yes, mine was bad for the first 11 months. I was even having patchy leg and armpit hair (which I didn't mind too much), but because it was so bad I had a blood test for thyroid problems. Of course all was ok and it is all growing normally again, until this one makes an appearance I suspect anyway.
