Aiden is 8 and a half weeks old now and yesterday I discovered that if I put him to bed, wind up his musical, teddy bear mobile and leave the room immediatly, he chats to the teddy bears for a couple of minutes and goes to sleep on his own.
I WAS putting him to bed and staying with him, unable to tear myself away because he would start cooing at the teddy bears and I love to join in the conversation with him and them  , but that just gets him narky...LOL
He starts to cry if I hang around  it's like I'm interferring in a private conversation.
He seems to stay happy if I leave, which makes it easier for him to put himself to sleep. If I try to put him to bed when he has fallen asleep in my arms, he wakes up screaming after a couple of minutes. I HAVE to put him to bed awake and HAVE to leave as soon as I put the mobile on.
Is that weird? Are any of your babies the same?
Hi there
Andrew was the same when he was very young, and it took me a while to cop on. He just needs to be alone or he won't settle. Since he was a few weeks old, he's been going to bed awake and drifts off happily on his own. He also likes to have a chat to his toys, very cute!
I think we are lucky to have bubs that self-settle, but at the same time, sometimes I feel a bit sad remembering the days when he WOULD sleep in my arms! lol

What clever little boys you both have - learning to settle on their own with no fuss ! :D
Congratulations - you obviously both have very happy and confident young boys there - well done ! :D

Thanks Rynosmum :)
It took me 8 weeks to work it out ;) doesn't happen that way EVERYTIME, so I have discovered today, but it happens most of the time. He has a period between 6pm and 8pm when he is very unsettled and the only way I can make him happy is to put him on the boob  real convenient time too, right when I have to get the other kids fed, bathed dressed and in bed. Why can't he do that at like midday when it's just him and me around? I could sit for the full 2 hours with him using my breats as a dummy then...LOL
Hi Mummycloud
My little girl chatters away to her mobile too, I love it especially as it's something my mum sent for her and she lives in the UK. Dont you wish you knew what they were saying!
Have you tried nappy off time during the cranky period. I've found that no matter how cranky Lucy is if she gets her nappy off and has a good kick around she is as happy as anything...just a thought :D

Manxie, I will have to give it a try. Sounds like a very messy idea, but a good one...LOL! :)

When I left work one of the pressies in my basket was a plastic change mat. At the time I thought crikey I'll never use that but hey ho someone knew what they were doing, its perfect. I pop her on that on top of a terry towelling nappy, she usually has a wee but I just wash the nappy and wipe down the plastic mat.
Dont know where they got the mat from, it looks like it was just a cheapo supermarket one.
Good luck :D

LOL, now if he was a girl that would work, but boys tend to aim and fire with those things lmao
He has reached the ceiling with that stream before
I will need to plastic wrap the walls!

There are some disposable change mats available at the supermarket. I just can't remember who they are made by  I had some samples of those which were great for nappy-off time. They are dry on top and plastic backed and you can throw them away afterward.
Otherwise a couple of towels are good...my poor little DS would pee upward and then cop it in the face on the way back down....LOL.....Sorry, no not funny....LOL :D
