Hi,
I had an IUD inserted Wednesday. I was spotting after it and the OB said it was normal. Since then the bleeding has gotten heavier and heavier. It's not heavy as in soaking pads or anything, but it's like a constant medium period (sorry about TMI, oh and it gets worse :o ). I didn't think i was supposed to bleed for days after the insertion. The pamphlet I was given doesn't mention it either, so i was hoping to hear what some other ladies expierianced.
Also, I was told that the string should have been cut very close to the cervix. My OB said that's what he did, but I keep feeling this scratchy sensation in my vagina and when I went to feel to see what it was, I had my finger in 1cm and felt the strings  it makes me think that the IUD has slipped out of my uterus and into my vag (I know TMI :o ).

So, I'm interested in what you guys think :)
Cheers!

I had one inserted 2 months ago. Thats sounds pretty normal to me, I was well informed by my gyno that it's common to bleed for a upto 3months after insertion and so long as you aren't suffering any serious pain then you should be fine.
I only just stopped bleeding a couple of days ago! Yay :D I was getting rather
sick of having a constant period!
Call your doc though if you are concerned, but it all sounds good to me! :)

 3 months!!!! bugger!
He probably didn't tell me that so I wouldn't chicken out...after all he did make $137 on it and he is in the process of a very expensive hair transplant...

I am worried about being able to feel the strings only 1cm inside my puss though and i can feel this scratchy sensation in there  Do you get that Julie?

I had Mirena IUD inserted just under a month ago - I found the insertion uncomfortable and painful, in fact I was dizzy and faint but that passed before I left my OB/GYN. I had some spotting for a few days, but its passed and nothing else since.
My OB/GYN said that spotting/bleeding can last for the first three months and that the thread can be felt at the rear of the vagina, naer the cervix. I've got a six weekly appt coming up and then a review in 6 months - mummycloud maybe you should see you GP or ob/Gyn if you are concerned!! Good luck

Weirdest thing, I woke up this morning with no blood at all on my pad  when I went to bed last night, it was like a normal full period.

I will see my GP tomorrow to check that it is in the right position though.

I had the Mirena inserted about 5 months back and only had a bit of spotting but my OB/GYN informed me that you can get a rather heavy period up to 3 months and spotting up to 6 months. I have had a period and it lasted 1 day and I only had to wear a panty liner!

I've never felt any scratching in my vagina from it, I would doubt it would have slipped out though, apparently you know about it aka it is very painful like a m/c if it comes out.
My bleeding was very on and off up until it stopped altogether recently. Some days I would be like 'woohoo' it's finally stopped only for it to flood back again the next day, so it's hard to say, but your doc should be able to advise you on whether it's postioned right. Maybe they need to check it for you.
I had a scan a month after to make sure mine was still in postion correctly. Your gyno probably just cut the strings a bit long, you can get them shortened if they bother you. Hope you got it all cleared up today at the Doctor.
