Today I am minding my friends children, Emerald who is 2 weeks old and Grace who is 2 1/2 years. It is 37 degrees and our air con aint working too fantastically due to the humidity.

Grace is fine with the heat. Been running around in her nappy and eating ice cubes.

Emerald is quite agitated... wriggling and squirming and not sleeping for long periods. Ive given her a little bath, wiped her down with a wet cloth and put her in front of the fan and air con... but I dont want her to get too cold and get sick either...

Anyone got some advice or tips...

Atm shes just in her nappy and has nodded off in her capsule with no blankets...

It's horrible isn't it! You have already done what I would suggest - bath, nappy only, indirect fan or air -con.

I would make sure she is having all of her feeds, maybe even a bit extra to keep hydrated.

Poor little bubba! 2 weeks old - probably just wants mummy-cuddles.

Sounds like you've done what you can. I personally wouldn't put a baby to sleep in a baby capsule, it would be better for her to be just on top of the covers on a bed, with a fan circulating air in the room.

I wouldn't put bubs in the capsule either, and make sure the cold air isn't right on bubs.

Spoke too soon... she is now grizzling and awake again...

She seems to like body/skin to body/skin contact but again I dont want her to get too hot!

Thanks for the tip on the monitoring her feeds and giving her a little extra... .

I put her to sleep in the capsule because her mum likes it like that... I think it doesnt really help with the heat... will try the bed suggestion... thanks!

The fan is just circulating...

Try wetting a towel and hanging that near her. As the towel dries the cooler moist air will help cool her. I did this a few times when DD was newborn, popping her in her cot with a damp towel over the rail. Just make sure the towel can't be pulled down or fall and cover her, and if you have a fan going make sure it's not blowing directly at her.

sounds like your doing everything right
if she wants a cuddle just get a towel and put it inbetween you and bub, this way the body heat wont het to her. i dont mean wrap her, just have it so that it is separating her skin from yours, i use to have to do this with DD when i would feed her because babys heads seem to get soooo hot that she would sweat so bad and my arm would feel like it is burning

I used to put a damp towel under a thin cotten sheet and let DS lay and play on it on really really hot days, and gave a wet face washer to throw around and chew on.

She's sleeping on my chest atm  . Quite soundly too... I got one of her chuck rugs (clean) and put it down on me and she responded really well to it... I think its cos she can smell mum and home on it and she can also be soothed by a heartbeat.

Grace has settled down to watch telly and eat sultanas.

So... less stressed now... Thankyou all so very very much for your tips and advice! :hugs:
