We inherited two rabbits just before Christmas and the kids fell instantly in love with them. They were really social and dh only had to sit down on the couch (in an enclosed outdoor area made bunnyproof) and they would both be up on his lap competing for attention.
Well, I had just welcomed my dd's friend to play last night and decided that we should feed/water/move the bunnies. We wlked to the cage and it was distorted and lying in the corner was a very badly mauled and dead little rabbie:crying: It appears that a fox may have got into the cage and the larger of the bunnies managed to hide out of it's reach but the cute little one didn't get out of the way quick enough.
Surprisingly, the kids are taking it really well and made comments along the lines of - well, that's life, bunnies die. They amaze me sometimes with their maturity.
The bunny that is left is very snuggly and needs a heap of attention at the moment, so I guess she is grieving pretty hard - I found her standing over her friends body as if she was on guard duty. :(
Bye Bye Bunny -RIP
