View Full Version : Does anyone else have this problem?
I just wanted to ask about varicose veins of the vulva. Not a very pleasent topic, I know but really, I'm sure it's more common than we think. Why dosn't anyone talk about this?? I'm 32 weeks pregnant with my fourth baby. I've had them all within five years so I expect my body has been a bit stressed, but I never even knew you could get varicose veins there!!
Has anyone had this, and has anyone got some tips to help stop the feeling that everything is going to fall out ??!

I know how you feel. I also suffred from them and it feels really weird and swollen constantly. I have no idea what to do to make it feel better as I just put up with it and they went away within days of giving birth but no one else I spoke to had the same problem and you are right - no one talks about it anyway. I do dread my next pregnancy because I know they will come back (got them about 34 weeks in last time).

OMG!! WOO HOO LOL I thought I was the only one who got those painful lil buggers
My last pregnancy I got it sooo bad I couldn't stand for more than a few minutes at a time, it was sooo big I had a surgeon look at it cos midwives were quite concerned!!
I used to rest as much as possible, keep my feet elevated, apply ice fingers to the area and have cool, salty baths each day and night...
They are very painful and annoying hey?!
Who knows what the chances are of getting them agian in a futre pregnancy... I never had it with my 1st, only my second! :(

You sure are right about no one mentioning them... I had two awful ones for my second and third pregnancies and now im 10 week pregnant and that is one thing I am dreading more than anything. I am studying midwifery and even the textbooks hardly mention it apart from to say it is rare and painful (duh!!). I was thinking about asking my gp whether they could operate on them....Any suggestions in dealing with them would be VERY helpful.
Cheers :o
I don't know how much I can help on this one, as I didn't have these in my pregnancy but...have you tried haemeroid creams? They act with an anesthetic but also to shrink the vein - which is obviously the main problem.
After getting over the embarrassment of having to buy this stuff, the lady in the pharmacy and I joked about if we didn't love our babies SOOO much you would never actually have them. Just think of all the things that happen to our bodies from being pregnant! ;)
Hope this helps!

thanks for the suggestion ! I did try a natural hemorroid cream but it didnt have much effect. Still if it stops the pain its worth it...
Thought I would update you all.... I found a product on an american chat room called a V2 Supporter. (They seem to be far more open to talk about these lovely side effects than us Aussies ;) ) Any how I ordered one, and it only took a week to get here and has made a big difference. Not so painful to be on my feet now, and I don't feel I have to put my hand between my legs to hold everything up!
Hopefully only a couple of weeks left to go anyway :D HOORAY!!!

Just stumbled across this thread. Don't know if this is what i'm suffering from so any help would be greatly appreciated.
I'm currently 28 weeks and basically have a constant pain between my legs. It gets aggravated by walking and standing for long periods. Though it hurts 24/7. Even moving whilst i'm trying to sleep is painful. I've called and asked the midwives and they say it should ease with Panadol and warm baths but it doesn't.
Are these the same symptoms as others are experiencing? I would really love to be able to enjoy pregnancy but constant pain doesn't help
Thanks
Rainbow

Ahhh I tried the creams and they did not help me. I either had to physically apply pressure to the area as if holding the vein in place or wearing lots of heavy pads and extra underwear to add the pressure when out.
