On Monday my wonderful cat Heidi died. :crying: I don't care if no one reads this thread but I just wanted to talk about it... I am grieving so much.
Heidi was rescued from the pound when she was a kitten. I was 19 years old and totally in love with her! She chose me (don't they all say that?) when she was the first kitten to jump up to me through the bars of the cage. Heidi had a very lively personality when she was young but she was also very affectionate and loved sleeping on my bed and curling up on my lap at night in front of the TV. In her later years she was much more independent, but I could still rely on her to curl up at the end of my bed at night to sleep. Heidi never roamed like other cats. She always stayed off the road and within our yard. She loved sitting under the car and watching the world go by. In the evening I would call her to come in and she would always obey.
Heidi's favourite food was fish - although her breath was never as bad as I expected it to be!! She also loved raw chicken and mince.
Heidi has had an interesting life. She has lived in many places with me and also lived with my parents for two years when I moved overseas. When she was about three years old, she went missing. I was frantic and searched every street in the suburb where I lived. I put advertisements in the local newspaper and 10 days later got a call from a lady saying a cat had been hanging around her husband's workplace. He was a doctor with a small practise in the suburbs. Now to get to this place from our home, Heidi would have had to cross a railway line, a highway, go through the CBD and then a few streets of residential housing!! I have no idea how she got there, but when I went to check, there she was in the garden looking so filthy and skinny, but she knew me and ran up to me! It was so wonderful to have her back - I cried for joy. When we got home she ate a whole can of cat food in one go, she was so hungry. I often think that perhaps she jumped into the back of a ute and was accidently taken away, or maybe kids picked her up. But she was still wearing her collar with a name tag and phone number! I sent a bottle of wine and a lotto ticket to the lady who rang me - I was so grateful to have her back. The other weird thing about this story is that only two nights before I found her again, I had to attend a meeting at a building across the road from the very spot where she was found. It's amazing I didn't see her that night.
Heidi was such a wonderful companion... she was with me through university, through my first marriage (and subsequent divorce), and then with me when my current husband and I bought a dog and later had our first child. She was there, waiting at home, during every big moment in my life whether good or bad and I will miss her so much.
Goodbye my Heids, I love you and miss you. :hugs:
