View Full Version : Anyone disappointed with BBB?

I got myself 6 BBB and i have used them quite a lot and i must say i am not really overly impressed with them. :( I don't like having to use covers over them as it is far to hot at the moment and way too bulky to wear them while going out. The other thing i don't like is the snap in inserts when it comes to cleaning, i find that when DS does his business in there it is just waaaay messier than the other nappies because of the snap in inserts and the poo goes everywhere making it pretty nasty to rinse off the poo before washing. I only use them when i'm at home and as soon as they get a little wet i need to change them.

Not sure if anyone else has felt like this because i have never heard anyone say anything bad about them...... The only thing i like is that they can be used from birth to toddler, but still i don't think they are worth it IMHO.

Anyone else disappointed?

Nope. I like them. Like the fit, like the feel, and like the way they wash.

I see what you're saying:yes: they do get better with time though, they need a few washes to increase absobancy. As for pooey mess, we've discovered homebrand disposable liners and they have made things 110% better, all the poo goes in the liner and I just pull apart the inserts as I drop the nappy into the bucket...easy:thumbsup:

BTW, if you want to sell them, PM me, cos I love them:o

I quite like mine :) It doesn't last DD all night tho so I have to put another booster in it, either hemp or bamboo coz microfibre doesn't make much difference.

I know what you mean about the poo going everywhere tho. I use disposable liners when i am expecting DD to do one, just kinda tuck it under the sides of the inserts to stop any mess getting inbetween the layers...I use liners in whatever nappy DD is wearing if I am expecting her to poo, saves me alot of scraping and rinsing :D

I like mine. They last better at night than any other nappy I have. And they even seem to contain the BF poo which is saying something!

I was the same when i first got mine, so i sold them. Then when i bought some gorgeous shorties and soakers so i chanced it again and bought more and now i'm inlove with them!!! :yelclap:

I think they are a lot easier to handle when you have a little squirt to clean the poo.

If you decide to sell them, Give me a PM. I will be happy to buy them off you.

I think i shall probably have to try liners, but i am too lazy! lol. Unless i maybe get flushable ones, but not sure how $$$ they are.

Does everyone use covers with them, or can you go without? I find that they do leak without one, but just wondering what everyone else does.

Thanks Karni about the little squirt thingy too, i'll be looking into getting one i think.

I think i'd rather get more bumgenius and maybe sell these... still not convinved that they are the best nappy for us, i'll let you know if i decide to sell :D

Love mine... we use microfleece liners with them... the poo sticks to the liner rather than the inserts....

At home we don't bother with covers... just pop a towel down in case the wee soaks through... but they are usually changed before it gets to that point...

Wool covers are really breathable if the heat is a prob...

I'll agree bumgenious are pretty tops.... sooo slim!

Highly recommend wool covers, especially for night. During the day isn't a problem at all. I don't put a cover on during the day because once it start to seep through then it's time to change it.

Thanks Karni, can't really afford any wool covers atm. :( How bulky are the BB with a wool cover on it?

I'm just going to keep using them at day time and try some others at night for now.

Also, does anyone know the best place i can get a little squirt from?

Wool isn't bulky at all. See i don't find BBH's to be bulky but maybe that's because D is chubby. I definitely wouldn't say that they are bulkier than the GreenKids Dreamytimes thats for sure.

You can get the connections from Bunnings or a reece store.. or even try EBay.

You can get a little squirt form bunnings. I have mine on order.

If you want to sell them, pm me too!!!
I love them! I only have 3 atm so they are what we use for night nappies. I team them with a wool soaker (knitted by moi, only cost me something like $4-$6 for the wool, pretty good, especially since they sell them for $30++ online for the same bloody thing! )

Never had a leak.

When I get the others delivered I have orgered, we will start using them during the day too.

Might I add, BBBH teamed with a woll soaker lasts Kailah 14 hours a night:thumbsup:

Thanks Lunar and Karni - will have to check out my local bunnings to see if they have a little squirt.

Also, i do like the idea of wool soakers, i just don't wanna pay $30 for them!! Do you know anyone that sells them for cheaper??

Can you knit? or know someone who can?
It is basic knitting, believe me.... you can get a pattern, maybe google wool soaker pattern or something, or pm a hubber for a pattern.

ETA... about the poop thing... I use microfleece liners.. home made... just got some material from spotlilght and cut it to size, the poop sticks to the liner and most of the time just rolls off when shaken in the toilet

do you know anyone (mum, aunts, crafty friends) that can knit? it'd cost you about $5-$10 in wool if you got someone you know to make it for you

I thought this, too, and thought "what a rip off!" but when i started knitting my own, i realized how much time was put into each one:yes: I'd definitely say that they are worth $30 or more:yes: My Mum knits one in about 3-4 hours all up, so that would work out to be less than $10 an hour for her time put in...

Love mine! Still getting used to making sure i put the microfleece liners in properly to avoid getting poop on the inserts though. And we are getting alittle squirt from friends, so it will be much better once i master everything.

We have a wool cover too for night-time & i have some material for a funky cover. The cream ones are just too boring for me. The woll cover only looks bulky when it is on over her hemp one for night (i only have 1 hemp, 1 bamboo ATM) as i put extra inserts in to make it last the night. Mum knitted my cover, it took her a few goes to get the sizing right, but it was only about $6 for the wool!

If you use mircofleece liners you will get rid of the poo problem, I don't like the way the poo gets under the inserts and in all the little nooks and crannies, but the little squirt is excellent to rinse it all off before the wash.

We only use BBB at night with wool covers, I got my MIL to knit me up heaps of soakers and I bought a couple. There are some places that sell them a bit cheaper. I got mine from oztion, sustainable hemp products, and wahmania.

Now that I have heaps of wool covers I'd like to get or make more fitteds for during the day too.

But I must say pocket nappies are easier and less yucky to rinse. That's what we use most

Nope, we love ours. I don't find them bulky at all to be honest. We use them all the time at home - no covers, and yesterday I went out, and I still didn't use a cover. If you have trouble with the poo, just use a liner. We don't use one bar at nights, but we just rinse off with the little squirt.

And I'm with the other ladies regarding the soakers, we use the BBB at night with a wool soaker, lasts 12 hours, no leaks, and dd is waking a couple of times for a feed, so it holds a fair bit. $30 imo isn't expensive for something that is going to be used every night, and will fit if you buy a good quality one, a couple of years, that could be over 500 wears :)

Thanks so much guys, so good to hear of some solutions to my issues with these nappies. I am going to have 3 things to do now! :D Get myself a little squirt, get some microfleece from spotlight and get myself some soakers. :)

I must say though, i do like the ease of pockets, much less mess and fuss. But i'm hoping that this will work for us cause i do want DS to wear cloth at night rather than sposies.

Hi Mylo! We find the fit isnt too good at all.... but the bamboo fabric really agree's with DD's skin! So it is a bit of a love hate relationship..... We have to use an extra booster in it too. Def a wooly soaker over the top! They are the best- no leaks when using the wooly soaker. We have a beastly bum PUL cover that fits over the top really well too- but it only gets used occasionally (if we are going out at night & want something snazzy)

Have to say I love my BBB too, they're my favourite for nights (I boost them with an extra hemp or microfibre booster). Love the way they fit and feel and DS seems pretty comfortable in them. I use fleece liners and a little squirt so if he's had a poo-nami and the liner doesn't catch it all, then the little squirt takes care of the rest no problems ;)

At night and if we're going out I use a Bummis cover, during the day fleece or wool, or nothing (if we're at home).

I much prefer BBB right now to my GK and SS pockets which I find bulky and more leak-prone, but maybe as DS gets bigger who knows maybe I will change my mind.

Like others have said, if anyone has BBB they don't want, PM me, I'll take them off your hands LOL!

Thanks Ladies, well i rang our local plumbing store and they have a little squirt for $65.00 and they have 2 in stock, so that's pretty good, think i might go and get one tonight.

 Mylo, I was talking with a lovely bubhubber today about my problem with all mcn's leaking for us during the night - and she suggested I get a BBH wool wrap, instead of a wool soaker/fleece/PUL wrap. Mitch sleeps on his tummy, so I think that makes him more prone to leaks, and he's also sleeping for 12 hours straight. I actually saw one of the wraps today, and they look good so I bought one. I haven't really read back over all the posts in this thread, so sorry if I'm repeating someone else! :D

I second liners and wool covers.
The fit on the baby beehinds isn't the best for Av but when with a cover they work well for us.
The reason why some soakers are exy is the wool isn't always commercial so cost more than a few dollars. Organic is more exy too. Handpainted as well. Quality is worth more. Also the effort is much more than an hour sewing a nappy for example.
You only need one or two wool covers esp for night so it isn't that exy over time. Cheaper than PUL in the long run.

Wool is def economical in the long run. I love them. Laura's organic wool soaker was pretty exy, but Im glad I bought it! It will be cheaper in the long run, and because all the lanolin had not been processed out of it I have not had to lanolise it once. Im sure the time will come, but so far so good! And cause it is a unisex colour whoever we have next will be able to wear it too. So much less hassel with wool too- less washing etc means if you have a few soakers you will never run out of covers!

Mylo, I believe that Bunnings has the Little Squirts as well if you have one nearby. For about $50 I think or maybe they've gone up now. I just remember someone telling me AFTER I'd bought one on eBay and paid $69! LOL. Anyway if you can get to a Bunnings it might be worth calling them to see...

If you can get to a Lincraft they have big pieces of 1.5mx2m anti-pill polar fleece for $9.74 at the moment. For that you can make yourself a tonne of liners in all shapes and sizes (including night liners, which are essentially nappy-shaped and cover the whole inside of the nappy to keep your LO drier) - and even have some left over for a bunny rug too

Thanks guys for all the tips. I got myself a little squirt today from the local plumbing shop for $65.00 so i thought that was pretty reasonable especially cause it said $75 on the packet, also Bunnings had them for $71, so glad i got it there.

I have also got a soaker being knitted by Noo and have got some polar fleece coming from Zada, so thanks girls

Oh yeah, and i did order some tots bots covers, so think we should get our BBB well and truly worked out :)

Thanks all, you guys are great!

i like mine, however i used to luuurve them so ive gone a step backwards.

i got an ericas and a couple of cuddlebuns recently and i much prefer them for day, however bbb's seem to work wonders at night. they are bulky for day though.

i wont be buying anymore bb's for a while but im still a fan.

and davina would have to be the most lovely lady ive ever spoken to. recently i sent a wool cover back to her with buggered elastic (turns out it was my fault for using a size to small and stretching it over a night nappy :o ). however she replaced it for a larger size, paid for my postage and called me personally to chat about it...

I love my BBB so much that the day my first 4 arrived, I ordered another 4 hehe. I love them especially for night time with a wool cover and I never had any leaks.
For day time I prefer pockets because thy are a little slimmer but I do use the BBB during the day without a cover sometimes and I find the nappy still dry after 2 hours but still change it any.
