View Full Version : Now what do i do with it
Im not sure if this is the right place please feel free to move it. I am in a bit of a delema with my dress now that its all over what do i do with it, one part of me wants to keep it and the other half knows it will only go yellow and get ruined, no one will ever where it again if i keep it and it will be a waste of space and a beautiful dress that cost me a fortune . What did u do with yours??? Keep it or sell it.. TIA Ashlea

I am keeping mine.
The reason is because, my mum hired hers & I would have loved to have worn it. ( Well altered it to suit my style ~ it was beautiful)
I want Ella to have that option if she wants it.
Plus I'd love to be able to wear it at our Golden Wedding Anniversary  ;) (if I am that skinny :p )
ETA: I am an anti-hoarder, so for me to keep it, it must be special!!
Mine's not made yet, (appointment with dressmaker next Monday, woo hoo), but I am getting it made with the full intention of keeping it.
I never realised the significance of a wedding dress until recently. I thought I would just wear some white thing, didn't really matter what, until I had a conversation with my MIL about her wedding dress. She was still so excited about it and she got married FIFTY YEARS AGO.
Its not just a dress after all. Its special.

I sent my dress to a specialist dry cleaners to be packed in acid free tissue paper for storage.
I've still got it nearly 20 years later.

This is what I've done for the same reason as PoshBecks said - maybe my daughter will want to wear it (i know i'll never be that skinny again!). It costs about $200?
i'm planning to fit into mine at our 10 year anniversary! eek. ( i probably wouldn't have fitted into it straight after the honeymoon :) ) but would never part with it anyway. maybe my daughter (if i have one!) would like to wear it.

I've kept mine. My marraige has since ended but I still can't bare to part with my dress. It is so beautiful (not to mention cost me a bit)!!!
So, it's just hanging in the cupboard and probably will be for years to come.

My mum made a Quilt using her wedding dress, all our christning gowns, 1st days of school outfits etc. It hangs on her wall, and every year, we cycle it through the family, My year is next year!! WOO-HOO!

I kept my wedding dress. I love the idea of the quilt I would be happy to use first uniforms etc but not the christening gowns.

Hmmm..no option on the poll for me. I hired mine. Simple-it was going to cost me over $3000 (and that was 12 years ago!) and I wouldn't settle for wearing anything else. I was in love with it but knew how many other things I could do with that sort of money. :)
My mum kept hers. It was hideous and there is no way I wanted to wear it despite the fact she was a fashion queen in her day!

I kept mine after DH begged me not to sell it. He said that it was just as much as symbol of our love and marriage as our wedding and rings.
I took it the drycleaners and had it preserved for $300. The dress cost me $1450 then $300 to have it preserved.
I've still got mine two years on,but only because I keep forgetting to get it drycleaned..that and finding the money to get it done...I'm going to sell it.

I had hours of fun playing dress up in my Mum's wedding dress. I figure my DD more than likely will want to get her own wedding dress but will be more than happy for her to enjoy hours of dress ups in mine.
im planning on keeping mine we got married on saturday and i still have to get it cleaned but i had mine embroided and dont think that anyone else will like it as much as i do also since it gave all our guests and DF (now DH) a great laugh (it was a holden emblem!) only on the second layer but it is special to us even though DH likes his fords
