Hi all, I am wondering what the tell tale signs that bub is getting ready to crawl are. My DD1 went from rolling around everywhere to walking and didn't even try to crawl so I am not sure whether my DD2 is getting ready to crawl or not.

Getting up on all fours, and rocking is a good sign.
Don't be surprised if baby goes backwards first.

Getting up on all 4's is usually one of the main signals. Rocking backwards and forwards too. And yes, apparantly it is more common for babies to go backwards first than forwards.. don't worry.. doesn't mean bubs is stuck in reverse! :p
For DS it was a case of getting up on all 4's and just staying there. To this day he doesn't crawl crawl he does the commando crawl thing. It appears he has no real interest in crawling because he's already pulling himself up on furniture and getting ready to cruise!

Raleigh got up on her hands and knees and started rocking at 6 1/2 months. She then started scooting backwards (glad to hear she's not the only one :)). She's now a very mobile girl at 7 1/2 months and is trying to pull herself up on the furniture. I wish she'd slow down :)

Ok now I'm getting scared.
How long approx does it take from going to rocking on all fours to actual crawling? K has been rocking for a week now and he is just 5 mths old.

Raleigh spent two weeks rocking back and forth and then went to shuffling backwards. It was another week before she figured out how to go forwards.

Thanks madvoice. Might be going forwards soon then.
Wish he wasn't in such a hurry to do things!!!!
PJ was one minute lying on his belly in the middle of the floor and the next moment doing the comando slide across the floor! He started this at 6 1/2 months, he didn't bother trying to get up on all fours till about a week ago (he's 8 months old now) and even when he did he'd drop back down to his belly cause he moved faster that way. Though now he's pretty speedy on all fours as well.
The thing that worries me is my older son only crawled for two months before he got up and started walking
PJ has been in a hurry to get up and move and he's done everything a lot earlier than Nathan, I really don't want him to walk in a couple of weeks! He's already tried to walk away from the couch, though he had forgotten that he couldn't do that yet and fell flat on his face!

Thanks girls, I think I may have a crawler on my hands in the near future.... Sienna has started to get up on all fours for about a week now but has only started the rocking thing over the last day or so. How exciting, I hope that if she does crawl that it soesn't slow her walking down, her sister walked at nine months and I loved it so I am hoping the she walks sooner rather than later. To be quite honest I would be happy if she skipped crawling all together but I realise all bubs are different and it looks like she will need to crawl first.
