Hi there

My baby is almost 6 months old and she is on the nan 1ha gold.
I see you can get a nan 2ha gold for when your baby is six months onwards.
Do you have to change them to this when they turn 6 months or can they stay on the other one????

Any advice will be great !
:)

No if your bub is happy there is no need to change formula, my DD stayed on the same formula up until 12 mths.

The next step formulas have different nutrients and ingredients that are meant to suit your growing bub better for the next stage of their development. I have found that when I changed over, as long as I stayed with the same formula we had been using there was no problem and neither bub rejected the new formula.

This said however, I think 6 months is a guideline and if you feel that you would rather your little one stay on the first step formula for a while longer it is not going to do any harm.

My bub is 7months and I just changed him to the follow on Nan formula with no problems at all. I noticed straight away that he wants one less feed a day on it now and more solids, it's quite good. I dont think it is absolutely neccessary to change them over at six months, just when you and bubs are ready and eating at least three solid meals a day.

Hi

I also use Nan gold, I changed when DD turned 6 months and DD got severe constipation. I asked the CHN what to do, she said if on solids go back to NAN1, unfortunately DD is refusing solids still @ 7.5 months so I am combining 1&2 and if she gets too constipated (more than 2 days) put a little brown sugar in the formula, works a treat. I think it is the extra iron they need from the follow on formula or solids

Hi there

thanks for your replies.
My bub was an early starter with solids as she mucked around on the bottle from an early age. Always gained weight though so that was good. She is spot on average weight for her age and is eating 2 good solids meals a day. She is having 4 bottles a day still on average so I am not ready to drop another bottlefeed yet.
I cook my own vegies for her and have just started pureeing my own fruit for her too. She has custards from the tin as well as the baby yoghurts on alternate days so I am hoping I am giving her a bit of a balanced diet as well as the milk.
I might leave her on the nan 1ha for now until she is ready to drop another bottle as the amounts she drinks is not what she is 'supposed' to have on the can. If I can get her having 3 180-210 mls bottles per day then maybe i can look at swapping formula !!!

Any further thoughts on this ...

Even if your bub is not drinking the amount on the can it is nothing to worry about. There is a formula to work out if your bub is getting enough milk which is I think (pretty sure)....

150mls per kg divided by the amount of feeds she has per day.

For example my bub is 6kg and usually has 5 bottle feeds a day so her milk/formula intake 'should' be....

150mls x 6 = 900
900/5 = 180mls per feed.

My DD also has 3 solid feeds a day so she sometimes drops a bottle but I always make them up at 180mls, sometimes she drinks it all but most of the time she leaves about the last 10mls.
