Hi every1,

I'm wondering if any1 else has a bub who seems to have a big appetite!?

My DD is just over 4 wks old and has about 7/800 mls a day. Plus she will
b/feed on & off as well. Obviously, she is not getting enough from me since she is having so much of the formula.
She'll normally only go onto the bst for a bit then cry and want off...
She'll normally feed every 2.5 - 3 hrs and sometimes at night she might go without for 4 -5 hrs.
If we try to cut it back she cries and carries on and starts sucking her arm-which usually leaves a little bruise!

Her tummy looks quite big at times...her Dad calls her little piglet!

I'd feel less concerned knowing other mums are with 'big eaters'!! Lol.

Thanks,Carol

Hi Carol

My little one has a big appetite as well. The health care nurse said it was because of her height. She is soley b/f so it can be draining for me because sometimes she feeds every two hours. The nurse told me to ignore any comments from other people re how often I was feeding her because her height dictates that she needs lots of food.

Little one is now putting on double the average amount of weight! So is becoming quite chubby.

Unless your health care nurse or doc expresses concern about your bubs weight - I wouldn't worry. Who wants to have a skinny baby anyway - the chubby ones are much cuter!!

Take care

Murphy

PS - my little one does the same sucking on the arm thing too!

Hi there,
I have 3 children and my first two were what I thought normal eaters. Text book really. Did I get a shock with my 3rd. She would stay permantly connected to me if allowed and she is no where sleeping through the night and she has just turned 6mths. I was so drained as I had a 5 and 3 year old to look after as well that I decided to supp feed her. We just play it by ear every day and sometimes she drinks formula and sometimes she doesn't. I do get a little conserned that my milk supply may drop so Isit down and feed heaps for a couple of days to build it up. I sit alot to.
But she is happy healthy and full of beans so I just go with the flow. What ever keeps both mum and bub happy is what I think. Don't forget at 4 weeks they still sorting out their feeding patern and settling into life. Feeding every 2 hours espiecally in this heat is quite ok and good in helping to build your supply.

One thing I have learnt is never doubt your decisions when it comes to feeding no matter what people say.
