Do any of the clothies out there use a change table and think it makes much of a difference? I hadn't been planning on getting one, just storing my nappies in a wicker basket on top of the drawers in the babe's room and changing him on a change mat on the floor or bed, that's always the way my family has done it. But now MIL has offered to buy us a changing table and I'm not sure to take her up on the offer or ask for something I might use more instead. Lately I'm thinking that as I'm using cloth (including wipes) then I'd need more nappy related storage space, but then again I might be completely wrong! I don't want to get one if it's just a waste of money.
Who out there does/doesn't use a change table and how does that work for you?
If it makes any difference, my stash is made up of mainly pockets but with muslim/terry flats with covers as a backup incase I get lazy with the wash!

Hi Fern
We change the kids on the floor. We have a change table - think it was used once or twice lol. Now its a junk spot in the kids rooms. If I were you, I would ask her to wait until after the baby is born and you see what you need. You might find that you would use a change table.

We have a change table and a nappy stacker. I love them.
There is NO way I would cope without one. I have a realy bad back and getting down on the floor and up all the time wouldnt do me any good.
I would reconmend you get one- definatly:thumbsup:

we've got a padded change mat on top of DD's chest of drawers, works great for us!! Everything is within reach and DD can't roll away (which she does when I have tried it on the floor. It's great for drying, massaging and dressing after a bath too, much better for the back.
We had a very basic one with dd1 but really didn't use it that much.
We got a lovely wooden one with dd2 because I thought I probably use it............. but we don't!
The floor is great, on the couch even (so long as it's not poopy). I guess the best thing about the floor is there's no chance of them falling off:D

I have one and I use it most of the time, unless Lachy is sleeping because it's in his room. I love it and it saves my back. Also it's a bit easier when then are trying to escape because of the sides of the mat :p
If you find you aren't using it you could always sell it later
I also use it to store Lachy's nappies, and Noah's are in the stacker hanging off the change table
LOVE my changetable... I went away for a few days over christmas, and had to change bub on the bed or floor etc, and it was horrible! It gave me a sore back! I would suggest getting it, and if you find you don't use it, then you can sell it later.

LOVE our changetable. We got a old second hand cheapie (around $100) that has 2 massive drawers & 2 smaller drawers up top. I keep all DD's wipes/covers/ointments/liners/boosters/soakers etc in one of the top drawers, everyday where in the other top drawer (ie, singlets shirts hats etc) and then we have a nappy stacker for the nappies. We stay at my Mum & Dad's place fairly regularly & we just use the bed there (with a change mat on it just in case!) and that is okay though- we just use the bedside table to store the stuff we need. DD has a room there for her things.

We don't have one - we just use our bed. Elouise sleeps with us in our bed so our room is her room, too. We have a nice big set of shelves dedicated to all things nappy related in our room within reaching distance from the bed. We find this works wonderfully for us and i don't think we would use a nappy change table if we had one:no:
There is NO way I would cope without one. I have a realy bad back and getting down on the floor and up all the time wouldnt do me any good.
 Agree, Its no good on your back bending all that way down to change a nappy especially when you will be doing it a fair few times a day.

I think that how much use you find a change table depends on the type of baby/child..
We were given a cheaper style fold up one. It was used for the first 2 months with Ronan. After that it was just easier to change him on the floor. We still have his nappies and wipes in a small cane basket on the dresser next to the TV in the living room.
However, Ariene is 8.5 months old and I'm using it 99% of the time with her- it's been great. I like the storage too. I also like that it was free :D and will fold away to nothing when we are finished with it.
If I didn't have one of these, I would have got a change mat for the top of her chest of drawers/tallboy etc. I don't think I would have got a seperate change table.

We have a two shelf change table and to be honest it only gets used for storing my nappies on nowadays. When Dakota was newborn we used it all the time but now we just change her in the lounge room.
I'm pretty sure that it'll get another work out when this baby arrives. I'm not sure if it'll fit all the nappies on there though so i may need to use a cain basket or a nappy stacker as well.
I love my solid wooden change table with shelves underneath and sides of course. I got it 2nd hand for 2nd babe- none for DD1. I used the bed then and it did not do my back any good. The great thing about my change table is it also copes with little kids climbing up to check out changing the new baby. I was never keen on the folding ones- seem so flimsy. So you could get away without one of course but they can be great for your physical health. They are a perfect item to get 2nd hand. I'm using mine all the time for my 3rd babe.

Okay, you might have convinced me girls! Seeing as it's a gift I probably will go for it, I just didn't want to get one if it was just going to be a waste of money and space. Considering how bad my back has been through this pregnancy then I'm thinking it's probably a good idea from what you've all said, and, if we don't get full use out of it, like suggested we can just sell it or pass it on if anyone else in the family has any more babies :)

Our change table was one of the most used items we had!! We were told not to buy one, and to change on the bed to save money, but we went to the baby store and bought one of the cheaper foldaway one, and measured for height so we don't have to bend over... I had a really sore back for the first few months, and don't think my back could've handled constantly bending over to change an endless supply of nappies!!
Hi,
We have a solid timber one. Boght it cheap unstained and stained it to match cot. My back is not the best and we were away in December and I used a bed and I was so sore.
One thing I wanted to mention is that when we looked the vinyl covered ones in the shops brand new were already splittling at the seams in the shop - so beware if you decide on this option.

I've been looking at the solid wood ones rather than the metal frame ones with the pull out bath etc, I just think if I get the wooden one then there's more options once the babe gets too big to be changed on the table - using it as shelves etc without it looking too much like a change table :)

lol- Mum & Dad are still using the changetable/drawers that they had for my brother 21 years ago! Very handy for storage :-D My SIL got normal drawers from ikea and popped a changemat on top and it is great! You can get an attachement for drawers from some baby stores that clicks onto the top drawer that has little spots to put your nappy changing stuff too (ie wipes, lotions etc etc) It clicks onto the drawer, but you can still open the drawer iykwim. It looks super handy!
We have a cheap one. It was the only thing we bought when I had my girl. (everything else was given) We still have it. Tbh its great for the first few weeks especially. Next bub I plan to get a nice wooden one.
