Hi all,

Not a very pleasant topic - but one that I have no idea about. It has now been almost 7 weeks since my baby boy was born, and I think I now have haemorroids - but not too sure about it. I had no complications during the birth and only had a 1st degree tear - which they said I didn't need stitches. After the birth for the first 5 weeks I haven't had any problems going to the loo whatsoever, until now.

I have pain when I do a bowel movement and then I have slight bleeding which only appears on the loo paper - it isn't on going. I know for awhile there I didn't eat very well - not a lot of fibre, but I have improved in that area. But I haven't seen any results.

Has anyone had a similar experience and what they did to fix the issue. If I can help it I don't really want to go to the doctors, I am quite embarrassed as it is. But if it is something I have to do then I suppose i have no option.

Thanks for listening.

Hi Natalie ... ah yes Haemmy's! You missed an entertaining thread a couple of months back about the very same topic.

There are MANY of us who suffer with this. What you have sounds very much like Haemmy's.

Drink lots of water.
Eat fibre ... in one form or another (prunes, dates, metamucil) ... but make sure it's regular.
Get yourself some haemmy cream from the chemist ... rectinol or similar.
Put a stool in front of your toilet and elevate your feet when going to the loo. It brings your hips up and reduces the strain.

Nothing to be embarrassed about. Most of us have admitted, openly, to grapes on our bums!

Best of luck.

Thanks Supermum,

That sounds a bearable. The last thing I want to think about at the moment is going to the doctor to have him take a look - I am very over having to have my bits on show. So this sounds a lot better - fingers crossed.

I too had that problem but hell I didn't even go into labour, I had a c-section and still ended up with haemorroids. :o

I just as mentioned above increased fibre and water.

I don't have any other advice besides fibre and rectinol or similar from the chemist. I just wanted to let you know that there are quite a few of us grape-bummed-girls out here!! You are not alone!! It does get better and it doesn't take all that long. As long as you watch your water and fibre intake once they go down you can almost go through life without having them flair up again (unless you do the whole pg, labour, birth thing again).

Oh, I just remembered, there is a little water or air filled cushion you can get to sit on if you have pain or discomfort. The chemist will be able to point you in the right direction. It is a ring shaped pillow type thing.
