Mum is currently studing her Diploma in Children Services.

She just wants to know if anyone can help her....


research an alternative communication system that may be used by a child in your care. Macaton is the one i have chosen, describe the requirements of the system and how it works, explain how you would adapt the opportunities and routines of your environment so that a child using this alternative communication system would be able to participate...

I've had a little bit of experience with Makaton but would really recommend PECS (picture exchange communication system)My experience with Makaton has always met with obstacles, simply because of the cost involved. Which often means LDC won't/can't outlay the money and the child goes without.PECS however is totally accesseble and adaptable to the individual child and can be set up by their family, teacher,etc. It's a great and effective tool that I have used often with an early childhood setting, especially with children who have ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder)See what your mum thinks, I'm happy for her to pick my brains
