hi everyone...i have just lately started getting eczema:gloomy: and i lost my cream that was prescribed to me at my inlaws house so now i have to wait till wednesday to have another docs appointment to get some more...but it seems to be spreding and getting more itchy:( what can i do till wednesday to maybe stop it spreading or calm it down???? i havent been itching it only gently rubbing it when its itchy and i also have stopped using the things i think may be causing it? any other things i could do:confused: also how long does eczema take to clear up once i do treat it with cream???
thanks in advance!
When my son had eczema I changed all his perfumes/soaps, no creams and I bathed him in rolled oats in a stocking. It could be coming up from the heat? And certain fabrics setting it off?

Hi Shannon,
If it seems a bit different to your normal eczema and keeps spreading, see your GP as it's a different form. The first time I ever got eczema was like this - it went over my chest, tummy, even my butt cheeks... sorry if TMI! Anyway after showering instead of drying myself I had to put on some foaming stuff and air dry... so fun in winter. After that I continued to get eczema on my face which I've never been able to get off completely.
Hope it's just normal eczema though :fingerscrossed: the other one is not fun!
I have this and use Cetaphil moisturising cream... mine is only mild though but on my face, but the cream works well:yes:

Hi Shannon,
Don't worry, it clears up quickly once you've got the stuff from your gp and doesn't leave scars. Except for the mental ones - I know just HAVE to moisturise from top to toe every day...
It's just the way you're describing it spreading that makes me think it might be what I had.
Although, not to scare you, have you had chicken pox before. The spots comment just made me wonder...

Hi My DH has atopic eczema and is hospitalised with it several times throughout his life. I would buy some QV bath wash and only use this to wash your self get some DERMEZE which is a tub that has liquid parafin in it and put this all over your affected parts after each shower. It moisturisers the skin and helps to stop it from drying up. Keep showers to a few minutes as this dries out the skin.
I hate to scare you but it does leave SCARS so make sure you don't scrath also if you have noticed crusty stuff it might be infected which means you will need some Keflex (antibiotics). There is a lot of creams out there but they usually don't work if it is bad. You will have to use the coirtisone ointment that the docs prescribe.
The flare up will only go when you use your ointment from the gp. It usually takes hubby a few weeks but he is a severe case!!
Hope that helps.
Oh and wear gloves when washing dishes also try a different washing powder it might be that that is setting it off. When you get adult eczema it is not the same as childhood eczema it is treated differently and if you get it in adult hood it is usually stress that makes it flare up. So try to relax maybe the hectic wedding preparations are getting to you!!

You can buy dermaid 0.5% or 1% cortisone cream over the counter at the chemist. It helps me alot.
Definatley the oats in a old sock or stocking works a treat. Use it in the shower or bath instead of soaps. Also very nourishing on the skin.
Hope u feel better soon.

1% dermaid cream (non prescription) from the chemist will be fine for keeping it under control.

Hi Shannon,
Did you get a chance to see a gp or chemist about the eczema?
Angelbaby8 - the atopic eczema sounds awful, your poor dh!

It is awful for him and the ointments cost a fortune, we have a health care card at the moment and it still costs $37 for diprisone tube that lasts a week. Then you add all the other cost of dermeze which is $16 and the rest it gets hard sometimes financially..
Oh try some phenergan to stop the itching.

Hi Shannon,
Like angelbaby8 my DP has eczema as well. The QV intensive body moisturiser is great. Make sure it is the intensive one, if the chemist doesn't have they will order it in for you.
How's it going now? Any improvement?

Hi Ladies, my 11wk old girl has really bad eczema all over her which started around 6 wks, just after her milk rash started clearing up :banghead:
So far we've used Dermaveen bath oil and moisturiser (with oatmeal), Alpha keri oil and moisturiser, XMA moisturiser and when that has failed, Aristocort prescription only. We also wash only with Lux flakes.
The cortisone clears it up, but it comes back very quickly and it is just heartbreaking not to be able to do something for her itching. She is just now learning to scratch and it is awful to watch. About two weeks ago she got her first ever nappy rash and while we can get it to clear up by using disposables and nappy free time, it takes only one poo that we miss for 15 mins and the rash is back as bad as ever.
This is an enormously frustrating condition. For those of you with bubs with eczema - are you finding they wake more often than babies who don't? My bub still isn't sleeping through the night and usually wakes about every 2 hrs, but a little feed usually puts her back to sleep. At least once a night I get up to moisturise her and at the moment, I'm getting by on about 3-4 hours sleep a night (no naps during the day unfortunately).
How do people go with returning to work when they have babies with eczema? What about childcare? Can they be relied on to moisturise and not just leave the baby with mittens on all day?

I have this and use Cetaphil moisturising cream... mine is only mild though but on my face, but the cream works well:yes:
I use this on my son who is 18 months (well just over)... and also use the bath wash....
I use Purity washing liquid, on his clothes and bedding, and natural stuff on our too....
We have it under control, still has outbreaks, but we just have to moiturise a few times a day.
It works wonders for us, I dont like using alot of the prescribed creams as they contain steriods.....
My daughter also has it and has since she was born i tried all the creams, oils ETC, we went to the Health Food shop and got a Bar of soap its in a yellow box with purple writting, you can also get bath oil and cream they made this for there son that was covered in it, He couldnt move and had to be wrapped up it was that bad. I have found its the only thing that works its brillant, if anyone is interested PM me and ill find out the name for you. It truly is Brillant and its not expensive. Avail at most Chemist's and Health Food Shops

Hey Shannon, not sure if anyone already wrote this but I use Lucas Paw Paw cream on mine and it has completely gone. I apply it on the area where I had excema - out of paranoia! But yeah it cleared it up and it's like $8 a tub from any good health/organic shop

Hello everyone...just thought id let you all know its been two weeks of using my cream twice a day everyday and finally its cleared up quite a bit...very faint now....still there is some of it on me but not so bad....i changed my soap to a sorbalene soap.....i also bought QV cream but not intensive cause i didnt read this thread before i bought it....i also took my magna wool off my bed just in case:o im hoping its completely gone by the 24th so i can get married with no marks on me....and at the moment its looking positive:fingerscrossed:
thank you all again for your great advice:hugs:
also everyone is talking about cortisone cream...is that the best one? i have celestone cream....has any one heard of that or used it?
Instead of using J&J baby wash or anything else I use QV Wash and Jess hasn't come up with excema since I started using it when she was 3 months old before then it was so bad she used to scream when we gave her a bath

DD has had eczema from birth. We tried every cream under the sun and her skin just kept getting used to them. We have spent thousands of dollars.
It got so bad, she had to go to the Children's Hospital emergency room for treatment. At that point the eczema was over 75% of her body, and most of the suggested creams and treatments that we were given (including most in this thread) made it worse.
Once we found the trigger, we have been able to control it. She has been almost completely eczema free for a few months now. But we had to move house to do it as one of her triggers is dustmites and we were in wall to wall carpet.
The only cream that worked effectively was cortizone cream. Ours is called elecon.
