inner spring bub mattress

i was just wondering whether ppl had an innerspring mattress for your bub's cot??
we bought one but today when i was out the man told me that he should have a foam one coz its bad for bubs to be on innerspring because its uncomfy and they cant breath through it if there face gets into it...?
has anyone heard that innerspring mattresses are bad for bubs??
i bought it at my local baby store and they told me they were better for bub?
anyone have any ideas?? coz im confused?!

I have an innerspring mattress and my sister-in-law actually laughed at me when I bought it. (Still not sure why)
I found that it was firmer than the foam ones and because Hayden was a tummy sleeper it made me feel a bit better. Mine has a waterproof side and a cloth side. I use the cloth side with a mattress protector on it.
Neither kids have any trouble sleeping on it.

I got the same reaction, maybe because of the cost? Now that MJ is also a tummy sleeper it does give me piece of mind.

I figured that we dont sleep on a foam mattress, why would she?

Foam mattresses go flat within about 4 months, which means you've got to go out and buy another one, or an innerspring (like we did).
Cobysmummy, I'd be interested to know what else your salesperson recommended when he said babies can't breathe through an innerspring mattress - I don't know anyone - adult or baby - who can breathe through a foam one either!! :confused:

we have been told by quite a lot of people that the plastic side is not made as a waterproofer as such it is actually meant to be on the bottom side of the cot and bub is never to sleep on that side as it is actually not breathable and for ventilation purposes needs to be on the bottom.

I have used an innersprung mattress for both of my kids (in fact, it is one that has been used for 4 children so far) and it has been fantastic. It is firm, my bubs slept well on it and I know that it won't change shape and start leaving gaps at the side of the cot etc.

Please, don't get upset at me using a used mattress ... my hubby is a carpet and upholstery cleaner, and it was cleaned with the appropriate anti-microbial cleaner and if it had have shown any signs of rust or unusual smell, he is really fussy and would have turfed it! It also spent time each week out in the sunshine getting a good airing and the surface bugs fried!

When i bought my matteress (innerspring) the sales woman actually recommended it and said that they had a lower SIDS danger rating- cause bubs sink into foam materesses, and the are supported better on innerspring!

But then another storeperson-different store- said there was no difference it was a personal thing! :confused:

I didn't want to risk it- and i figure it will last her til she is 3!

And to be honest my DD spends most nights with me anyway!!! (I just love baby snuggles :rolleyes: )

I just bought one too, I was told that the plastic side is good if bubs is sick (for extra protection), but people generally use it on the normal side other than that.

Also, I am different- I got a foam one, there wasnt any price difference- the shop assistant had one for her baby and said it hasnt gone out of shape... she thinks they'd be more comfy than innerspring so thats the only reason I went foam! (Im new to all this.... so I hope it lasts!).

I have one that is neither foam nor innerspring, it is the same material that hospital beds are made from, apparently has more ventilation than the other 2 and has the same life span and firmness/comfort as an innerspring, it was cheaper than an innerspring, not sure of the brand but maybe it's a breathe easy. I have had it for about 2 years and have not had a problem with it.
i have also heard that the plastic side of mattresses (mine doesn't have one) should be on the bottom of the cot/bed because of suffication?
