I don't know where to post this thread. I had a m/c mid Nov last year and then af came about 3 weeks later. That cycle was then normal for me and af came at the right time. Then - af came 15 days into my next cycle - it has gotten heavier and is still going strong (now day 8/9 of bleeding) it is certainly the heaviest af I ever remember having. So I ended up going to the dr and had pg test and stuff done - he said it'd prob be just my cycle trying to get back to normal after m/c. Anyways, long story short - my hcg level is 8 and I know that i went down to <2 after my m/c (had bloods done then) so this means what?? I've had a pregnancy and lost the baby - i am pg?? Anyone had anything similar??

hi there, hopefully someone with more experience will be along soon with some great facts for you, my post is from pieced together info, but here goes...

I've always been told that HCG above 2-5 indicates recent or new pregnancy. So it does sound like with you AF that maybe one came just to the point of implantation but didn't make it, but then again, maybe you just caught it super early.

I think the only thing to do in this situation is maybe wait a week (not appealing, I know :o) and do a home test?

However if you are worried about this, maybe another trip to the doc is in order. What did the doc say about the level being 8?

:hugs: to you, it's a rough and frustrating time, keep your chin up mate

:hugs:

not knowing is the most awful thing. I know that it will be hard, but I agree with BlueGin that you should wait a week and then test. It probably wouldn't hurt to get your blood tested again next week too to see what is happening.

:hugs: I hope it all goes well.

Thanks ladies,

So what you're saying about not quite making it for implantation - would that cause heavier than normal bleeding and a change in hcg level? The dr said that level 8 could mean it's left over from the m/c (which it's not) or I've had a pregnancy in the interim and if i have no pain and the bleeding settles over the long weekend not to worry about it.

Yeah, I think that if the baby does implant a bit (I say "a bit" as I understand that implantation can take a few days, and I think that sometimes this process is unsuccessful after it starts) then your body gets prepared to be feeding it so there is extra blood. Your body starts producing HCG very early to support the baby before the placenta can take over, a level of 8 could well be almost the day of implantation though, so I don't think you'd really know at the moment whether implantation was successful or not.

Sorry, I hope that ramble made some sense!

Thanks for your help ladies, it's so good to be able to come on here and pick peoples brains. I am not at all thinking that this would be a successful pregnancy - how could it with all the bleeding? -- 10 days now... If it is an unsuccessful implantation - is that classed as a m/c or just nothing?

You might hear is called a "chemical pregnancy" too, I'm not sure of the technical term, I'd imagine jo-anne.36 would be on the money as she has had them diagnosed before.

For now I guess you just do your best to look after yourself, physically, mentally and emotionally :hugs:

Thanks for that Jo-Anne. I'll go do some googling now. It's good to be able to name these things (if that's what it is). Thanks BlueGin - your words are very kind.
...Jo-Anne - I can't find anything on the net about bio pregnacy?? Is it the same as chemical pregnancy?

hi jo-anne - they mostly say that you get a late period (mine was early) and there's every chance it won't ever happen again. I think i'll go in and see the dr next week to see what he says. P.S. I love your avatar!!
