View Full Version : Pneumonia During Pregnancy
I'm hoping someone can help me with some information.
My friend who is about 25 weeks pregnant has just been admitted to hospital with Pneumonia.
I have Googled, and don't like what was returned. I'm hoping that someone can shed some light on the subject for me re risks/mortality/birth defects if anything.
Thanks.

Don't google!! You'll scared yourself silly.
The doctors will know what they are doing :)
That's why I thought I'd post here. More realistic.

I had pneumonia in my first pregnancy, I can't remember actually being told any risks to bubs except for the medication they put me on and the need for chestxrays but I do remember that as it lasted almost 2 months that the worst part was how utterly exhausted I was on top of normal pregnancy exhaustion, I would sleep 23 out of 24 hours a day and only wake to eat basically.
I hope your friend gets well very quickly and her and her bubs are both okay.
Hi
No,NO, No more google :shame:
My sister had pneumonia when preggers with my nephew he is normal - well no he isnt actually he is super intelligent, scarily so - so dont worry please I'm sure all will be fine:D
Thanks guys. You've put my mind at ease.
I'm sure that she'll be fine, but this particular friend just doesn't know how to stop, and I'm afraid that she'll wear herself out with this, her toddler, work, and her current pregnancy.
I'm just a worried friend.
Thanks guys.

my mother was pregnant with one of my sisters when she developed pneumonia, and everything turned out fine. that was back in the '70s, and i'm sure that medical technology now will mean that your friend and her baby should be fine.

hi there
i had pnuemonia in my second pregnancy when i was 37 weeks, it lasted for 2 1/2 weeks, didn't end up in hospital but was on antibiotics etc to clear it up before i had to give birth which luckily it did.... i just remember being VERY tired especially cause i had a 2 yr old who demanded a lot of attention... thank god for family is all i can say..... i really hope your friend gets better quickly... and has a great rest of her pregnancy..... and dont worry bout those google results, my baby turned out fine.....shes gorgeous.... !!!!!!!!!
I think there is more of a risk earlier on in pregnancy and it varies with the severity of the pneumonia!
I was admitted to hospital with bi-lateral pneumonia when I was 11 weeks pg and due to the fact that my temp had been almost 41degC for 4 days, my organs were shutting down and I was fighting for my life.
As a result, my bub died ... I didn't find out until I had been in hospital for several days as I was unable to lie down to have an ultrasound.
It was a very unpleasant experience to say the least ... the most disappointing thing for me now that I am no longer grieving so much is that since then I have had 4m/c and it is breaking my heart waiting ...
I'm so sorry for your loss Elias.
Well thank you one and all for your posts. I was pleased to hear yesterday that my friend's fever broke, and she should have been discharged today.
Thank you all again for keeping me calm.
Damn that Google!
