German Shep - to breed in SA

This might be a long shot but... we are looking to breed our 4 year old male pedigree German Shepherd - so we are looking for a female pedigree shep in SA. Just thought I would see if any responses before contacting the breeder that our doggy came from. So if anyone knows of anyone??

Is he papered? Do you have a breeder's prefix? You dont need one but it's a good idea to get one. Your dog needs to have all his health checks done, OFA, CERF and thyroid panel. If he passes all his tests then you can offer him up at stud but it can be alot of work and can sometimes be dangerous. Its not as easy as putting two dogs together and letting them go. Timing is everything and if a ***** is ready at midnight then you have to be there at midnight too. If you put your dog with a ***** that is not ready it can sometimes get nasty. Thanks Liah. Yes has has papers and has been health checked (well he has had hip xrays etc). We do not want to take part in the breeding ourselves... more that we are looking for a breeder for us. We will prob end up taking him back to the breeder where he came from as she has indicated all along that she would like to breed from him. Its just that we find her a bit "strange" IYKWIM - she has trouble selling us him as a pup in the first place as she did not want to give him up, so we are a little reluctant to take him back to her in case she wants to keep him!!

Thats great that he has health checks done :thumbsup: Im a little confused when you say you don't want to take part in the breeding, you are looking for a breeder for you..... Sorry could you explain a little better? *embarassed*
If you dont feel comfortable with your breeder don't go back to her, your gut feeling is usually right. I had the same problems with my first male pup's breeder, I didn't agree with the reasons she was breeding and decided that she wasn't someone that I wanted to be associated with.
