How have you done it? Have you changed your thoughts or methods over time?
I weed on a stick (twice!) last time because it was oh so satisfying after 2 years of ttc! When I was first pg with Conor people kept asking me if I'd been to see a GP and I would idly think "Oh yes, must do that" but I couldn't think of a good enough reason LOL. I weed on a stick, I was pg, what else could a GP do? So what about you?
* Intuition - dreams, "knowingness"?
* bodily knowledge - felt it happen, pregnancy signs?
* Combination of intuition & bodily knowledge?
* weeing on a stick!
* blood test from medical person?
* ultrasound?
* something else I missed?

I've had two children and both times I wee'd on a stick long before I rocked up to the GP for confirmation ... not that I needed it.
I remember my obstetrician telling me that my due date was Feb 10th and I always argued Feb 3rd because I knew the exact moment my son was conceived. I honestly felt it. And DS, bless him, was born Feb 3rd. My ob never believed me!
I also felt the 'moment' with my second pregnancy.
Within a week my breasts were sore, I was peeing alot and very tired. No brainer!
I weed on a stick both times, but I also knew. With my 1st I had gone up a cup size and I was only 3 days late!

Funny you should say that about the GP :)
With DD#2 I peed on 3 sticks to be sure (I was happy with two but DH wanted to be sure :rolleyes:)).
We then went to the GP for confirmation (as I thought thats what you did) and he wouldn't do a pee stick or blood test as he said " youve done it 3 times so you know your answer why would my method be any different"
Quickest GP apt in my life and it still cost me $35 for him to say that ggrrrrrrrr.
With my first, i new the exact moment when he was conceived. Didn't have any other signs but i just new, and peed on a stick to confirm it. With this one, my boobs are very tender and i am weeing heaps and have peed on about 4 sticks so far just to be sure. :)

I woke with a pain in the night, and suspected it was my period starting, but now know it was implantation, after that night for the next fortnight my DB kept saying you are pregnant, over and over again, so to shut him up and prove him wrong I did the stick test and I was in fact pregnant lol!!! Got comfirmed the same day as the next day we were going overseas :eek:

With #1 we had been trying for 5 years, had two failed IUI attempts, then I fell pg naturally while on hol's. When AF was late I "just knew" (i'd had many late AF and many disappointments over the years), but this was different, a wonderful calm feeling came over me. My sis was home from o/s visiting for two weeks, so I new it was fate (we are very close). I peed on a stick twice as DH wanted to be sure so that we weren't disappointed again - positive both times. I did see my GP to have a blood test to make absolutely sure and because everyone was so worried how I would handle another disappointment.
With #2, when AF was late at first I thought it was because I had only had AF back twice since giving birth to #1 AND I was breastfeeding. I was in shock, so I peed on a stick twice which showed a positive result. I couldn't deny it, again I just knew, although I couldn't quite believe how easily it happened 2nd time round. The nicest part was not having to go through another 5 yrs of hell !

I just knew at conception, I was laughing and crying at the same time and standing up to try and make it all fall out! DP thought I was mad and did not believe me till I missed my AF and wee'ed on 2 sticks (because the line was faint the first time!) I truely believe that although we did not choose that time to concieve, it was meant to be!

neither this time nor with my first have i had a doctor 'confirm' my pregnancy. no offense to any doctors out there, but i am not a big fan of doctors and stay away from them as much as I can!!! (a close friend of mine is a doctor so nothing personal!). also, it seems like a waste of time to me, if your little stick has two lines on it and you are late and having other symptoms.....
i am 10 weeks today, and feeling fine and have not put any weight on yet, so must confess that i sometimes think, "is there really anything in there?" am having a scan in 3 weeks, so looking forward to having it "confirmed" then!! hehehee :D

I just knew the morning AF was due. Just a weird excited feeling. It was so wonderful. We weren't "trying" (we went off the pill & thought if it happens its meant to be)so it was a beautiful surprise. That day I went & got 3 home tests & did them everyday till monday when i went to the Drs to confirm.

I have used many sticks. My cycle is all over the shop so I also went to the docs, I have a very close relationship with my GP, I've been going to her for most of my life.

i peed on 6 sticks with this pregnancy - and i went to my gp and he said right-o no need for him to test me -
I dont thin kthere really is a need for a gp to confirm your pregnancy if you've got a positive hpt

I just knew both times. I must say I wasted my money on a few sticks to confirm both times, as I just couldn't wait to find out for sure.
This time I discovered the ones that you can get a positive before a missed AF so I knew for sure before I was even over due.
I also went to the doctors just triple check, but mostly just to let him know, as he's our family GP. :p

Both times it's been the wee sticks :)
Last time I went to the Dr cos I was dubious of the sticks and had no symptoms. Like some of the others Dr said "You've used HOW MANY tests?" (4). No need for me to test then - do you want shared care, GP or OB - here's your referral LOL
I haven't been to Dr this time - but same - not really any symptoms and (oops outed again) 4 +ves.
Yes I should have shares in the companies. :eek: If this pg is the same as last time I'll get ms in about 2 weeks. Think I'll go to the Dr on Friday - that shouldn't look too silly (but I don't think I'll admit how many HPT's I go through). I'm just a girl that likes to be sure!!
With my first, I'd done two sticks (both +) and went to my GP begging to be told the sticks were wrong! Went for a blood test to confirm it.
With my second, I did a stick, +, started bleeding, figured the test was wrong and it was AF. I stopped bleeding after two days, so did another test, +, so went to the doc, who did a blood test to check my HCG levels, then went for an ultrasound, everything fine!
Now, my third was fairly complicated. I'd had a miscarriage, and had an ultrasound to make sure it was complete. They found a huge ovarian cyst and told me to come back in two weeks to check on it. All my preg symptoms came back, so did a stick, + of course, so got them to have a look at the ultrasound where they found a gest sac measuring 5 weeks. Doc did a couple of blood tests to check my HCG and iron levels, then referred me to my gp/ob!
Congrats and good luck to those who have recently got a BFP!!!

Both time I peed on sticks.
I had no idea!
Both times I had every classic AF symptom in the book and nothing was different.
My body just likes to trick me a bit I think!! :rolleyes:

I had no absolutely no idea. We weren't trying to concieve.
The week before I found out I was pregnant, I had severe stomach cramps, which I can now tell you, were very similar to contractions. Because I nearly crashed the car while having one of these cramps, the girls at work made a GP appt for me and
he did a blood test to rule it out!!! That same afternoon, I rang dh who was in the line at the post office and asked him if I could be preggers :o He said we'd better talk about it when he got home. On the way home, we stopped and got a twin pack of tests and freaked out when there was two lines. One very faint one, so we did another test in the morning. Still very faint. I then rang the GP to get the results of the blood test.
Positive - YAY!!!!! Happy even though we weren't trying :)
The cramps lasted 10 weeks and I lost 14kgs.

My eldest was a lovely surprise but DH felt that I was pregnant. I just thought I was having really bad period pains, then it occured to me I was 2 weeks overdue. I wandered down the chemist, picked up a test kit and went back home. I read all the instructions and settled in for a 5 minute wait on the test results. Well both lines popped up instantly :D
With DS I knew at the time we conceived him... and I was sure he was a boy!
With DD I knew again :) and this babe... I thought I was out of luck, I did one of those "early" tests, it came up negative and so I figured my period would come told DH we didn't conceive... then on the day my period was due I just knew, and I had a spare test which this time was a faint positive. DH sent me off to the docs before he could get really excited ( he didn't trust the tests) and I peed on a stick there that had the same result.
I couldn't go for a blood test... I NEED the instant gratification!!

i had no idea. i'd been to the GP about my cycle and she wanted to test that i was still ovulating - i was pretty sure i was but anyway.... so i did the test and rang a week later for the results. the nurse who spoke to me told me that my GP wasn't there and she couldn't give me the results. then she asked if my period was late and i said it was but i felt like it was coming. she coyly suggested i do a pregnancy test. i didn't wee on a stick. my dp brought home this test which involved me peeing in a little cup, putting the stick in a little foam ring (like a lifesaver) and floating the stick in the wee...charming.

We had been ttc for years and had just started down the IVF Route. I went in for the last blood tests before I was due to take the FSH. The nurse rang back and told me that the blood tests indicated that I was already pregnant.
I did not really believe her and went in for another blood test a couple of days later and sure enough - definitely pregnant.

We had been ttc for 1 year, with little success. The day after I conceived, I knew. I just felt different. Used a hpt a little later down the track and got a feint positive. I was so excited, but wasn't sure if my eyes were playing tricks on me :) so I went to the gp for a blood test to confirm.
I will never forget the phone call from my gp. I was driving in the car on the way to a staff meeting with a friend, and when I got the news it was sooooooooo hard to not tell her!!!! I wanted my dh to be the first to know. The toughest secret I EVER had to keep. It was also too late to weasel out of the meeting which was quite an important one!!!! Needless to say I don't think I heard a word of what was being said. After the meeting my boss approached me, and seemed quite concerned asking if I was ok. All I could do was give her a huge grin and say "I'm fine!!!" :D
