Hi,
My baby girl Usually go's to sleep at around 8pm, I wake her at midnight to have a feed (bottlefed) then she go's straight back to sleep and wakes at around 6/6.30am. I wake her so that she doesnt wake until 6/6.30am, But Ive never tried not waking her. She is 5.5 wks. What I wanted to know is should I be waking her? Should I try and see if she sleeps through? How long can a baby this old go without a feed? And any other advise anyone has would be great.

Thanks E

I'd stick with what you're doing. If my bub had slept for that long at 5 wks I would have cried with joy!

You could try but why fix something that ain't broken (is that the right saying?)

Congrats on having a bubs that sleeps like this at that age.

HEY

Thanks for your replies. I think I might leave it the way I have it Just incase it changes her sleeping to much. I really didnt relise I had it good. What is the normal night sleep pattern?

Hi E,

You are very very lucky. My little one slept through for 5 nights when he was about 2 weeks old but after that, I would be up once at midnight and again at 3 - until he was about 3 months when that dropped back to 1 feed then 5 months when he started to sleep through.

I asked a Lactation Consultant when he slept through in the early stages what to do and she suggested that if the baby is sleeping, let them sleep. They will let you know if they're hungry. Personally, I'd try one night without the feed and see what happens. I've got a friend who's bub has slept through since almost day one 7-7 ! You might have one of these bubbas !

Good Luck ! :D

Why are you not dream feeding? We did this and it worked a charm. We fed him at 10 or 10.30 and he'd go all night but he was asleep for the feed. I wouldn't wake them personally.

I didn't wake mine either. I agree that they will wake if they are hungry.

I second the idea to give it a go and see what happens one night, you can go back to the old routine, but youmight get a pleasent new suprise.

Jade slept well from day one... (just not sleeping much during the day, but that's ok)

I would leave it a night and see wether she wakes at all. And don't worry about her not getting a feed at night at this age - remember alot of babies sleep all night from the first night - my son was only a couple weeks old when he started sleeping 12-14 hours at night and he didn't starve.
If she doesn't sleep through I would just go back to doing what you are doing now as you seem happy with the situation

My little man is 6 months old tomorrow and only sleeps 5-6 hours straight at night, therefore I was him for a breastfeed at about 11-11:30pm... I have tried not waking him but he woke up at 3am... I think I would rather wake him before I sleep then having a broken sleep.... I will have to try him again soon now that he is on solids...

Do what feels right to you... As others have metioned, maybe try let her sleep and see how long she sleeps for and if she wakes to early go back to your current routine..

Yeah thats the same with Kailey, she sleeps well at night, and doesnt sleep much in the day time and she been like this since birth.

Well last night I decided just to let her sleep, so I dint wake her. She slept from 9pm until 7am. So Happy with that!!! We're going to try it for a couple more days, just to make sure it wasn't a one off, and see what happens.

to annsam, Ive tried dream feeding, but she won't do it, just won't suck on her bottle while shes asleep.

Thanks for all the replies and help.

I've tried that dream feeding as well, and didn't work for me either, she just won't suck while asleep. My DD2 is 14 weeks and i normally give her a feed at 9.30 before i go to bed at night, so she'll sleep til about 6am. I have never tried not to as she has only just started sleeping through that long, it used to be about 4 am... Sometimes at the 9.30 feed i can't wake her up even trying on purpose, she's that fast asleep! Those nights she manages to sleep through until about 5.30/6am too, so maybe i'll try and cut the 9.30 feed and see how she goes....
