Hi all,
My baby girl is now 5.5weeks old and she loves sleeping on her stomach. If I put her down on her back, she doesn't settle or wakes up, But if I put her on her stomach she go's to sleep straight away. I tryed putting her on her side but she can roll onto her stomach. I don't know if I should let her sleep on her stomach or what to do as I know it is a sids thing not to put them on their bellys. Has anyone else had this situation? Any advise on what to do would be good.....
Thanks E

I had the same issue with Emma when we were still in hospital, she would settle on her tummy & I would sit there watching her as I knew because of SIDS it was a big no no. I couldn't stand the worry so persisted with teaching her to sleep on her back. Of course the older they are the harder but with time & persistance & probably not much sleep for you for a while you should be to teach her to sleep on her back. Good luck. I know of a great book, if you would like private message me and I will let you know. Hope I'm not breaking any rules???

My DD prefers to sleep on her tummy also- and the only way i could get her to sleep was on her tummy then roll her onto her back- very time consuming
Then one of my friends mum suggested getting a large towel and rolling it(short sides in) from both sides so you end up with 2 rolls and a strip of material in the middle- IYKWIM- and then placing her on her side inside of this-so she couln't roll onto her tummy! I did this and it worked wonders- she couldn't roll and i slept better knowing this! I think you can also buy a ready made version of this at baby stores- but i found the towel worked fine and cost me nothing!
Best of luck...

my son did the same thing!
my mum used to put coby to sleep on his tummy and i would freak out... until i realised that he slept so much better and from then on just slept him on his tummy... he is fine and sleeps well....
it is a bit scary coz they freak us out about sids.,.. but u just gotta do whats right for bub and you...
good luck with your decision!

Tai is a tummy sleeper - has been since about the same age as you're describing.
Basically when he learnt to roll from back-tummy he begun tummy sleeping.
I freaked out because of the SIDS risk and everything else, but it was pointless trying to put him back on his back, he'd either wake, be restless or if I used a towel or something he was too smart & rolled over it.
In the end I gave in. He sleeps better that way. Anything so I can get some sleep! :p

Babies are funny aren't they? Hayden slept on his tummy from when he was about 3 weeks when I stopped wrapping him and Alyssa hated being wrapped and sleeps flat on her back.
Unfortunately, they still don't know what causes sids and babies much older tragically still die from it. Just make sure the mattress is quite firm.
Both of my son's were tummy sleepers. From the time they could lift their heads, incase they vomited (they were both spewy babies), at around 3 weeks we started putting them on their tummy. It was the only was they would sleep.
They also both started sleeping through the night Nat was 3 weeks PJ was 7.
