You can buy alot of wallpaper type things like boarders and characters to go on the walls , that just peel off later when they want to change.

Try spotlight, or babies galore.

Hang some nice prints, you can sometimes pick up something cute and really cheap from the reject shop, or Warehouse any of those kind of stores.

get a nice bright rug for the floor, even on carpet this really picks up a room.

These are the main things we did and its looks good.

I have just finished our nursery (we are expecting a baby girl) and we have just finished....
We have done a french provincial(sp?) theme!
You make a little girls room look pretty with just a few cushions, throw rugs and A nice quilt cover!
You can also buy a canvas and paint it and use beads and diamonties
Good luck and Have fun!
It doesnt have to cost a fortune just try little shops or even target always have some really nice girl things!

We are renting at the moment so couldn't do alot of major things but I am really happy we what i have done. I bought or painted all baby furniture in glossy white paint. There were already lace curtains up so I bought 5 metres of pink material an swagged across the top hanging down on each side. Bought a plain white vase ($10) and one pink gerbra ($2) and put on top of the dresser with a pink fluffy bear given to Emma. Bought some various sized pink gift boxes from discount shops, stacked them on each other and sat various teddies (gifts) on them. I also bought some subtle pink stickers and put in a pattern across the cot head and foot. It was simple and cheap but came up a milliion dollars, I get amazing comments on it all the time....
Hope this gives you some ideas...

all these suggestions are great. We are also renting which makes it hard to do much but painting furniture in one theme can really change the room. We got second hand furniture as hand-me-downs and from charity shops and painted them. Of course we went with black furniture with silver bats and cats with purple crush velvet toy box lid and cushions which isn't really for everyone!

Chellegoth,

You're right, not for everyone, but HOW FUNKY!

My SIL would love to do stuff like that I'm sure when she eventually has a bubba, unfortunately, I dont think it will happen with her mother!!

How did people react to your choices, or were they expecting it from you :D

I think everyone thought my daughters room was gonna be bold, primary colours with no space for anything else, I would have loved to do it, but damn the whole conforming thing.

I've been a goth for quite a few years now so they pretty much expect it now although i think they thought I wa sgoing to "grow out of it" when I got pregnant. they even hunt out black clothes for DD!!

hehe, thats funny!!

Im really amazed that you have the courage to do that and stick with what you believe in, especially with people as they are today :p

Have you found any places in particular which is good to shop for "gothbaby" clothes? I might get in early for my SIL, try to encourage her to keep true to herself!!

We have a really big charity type store in Melbourne called Savers where I go once a month and buy a ton of clothes. And I just keep a look out at all teh regular stores for anything black and buy it if I can in whatever size they have. DD has a large collection of clothes going up to size 5 and she is not 2 yet!

Thanks everyone for your ideas.

I finally did someting about the boring rooms this weekend and i have plans for finishing it next weekend..

This weekend i made some curtains to go over my daughters venitions, they are pink gingham, I love pink. I also plan to paint her room.. hopfully pink.

my baby to bes room.. which should be a boy.. has also been organinsed, all the junk is gone, the cots up and change table there and i used the bumper from the cot set as a wall decoration.. looks good. only thing is that now i wanna paint his room too. wish i had the guts to paint it lime green or someting but... its just not me.

yeha soo thanks, their rooms are looking better already.

One thing I fully intend to do it paint a wall with blackboard paint and also magnetic paint (or 2 walls..) and have a white board on another wall (or a wash and wear wall?)

I would have loved that as a kid

Check out www.ikea.com.au for childrens room ideas. I love ikea stuff and they are very well priced.

You can buy cheap canvas from $2 shops get some matching fabric (from quilt or curtains etc) and staple the piece of fabric over the canvas and hang in bubs room. They look great and saves you a fortune on expensive pics etc

I love decorating, its so much fun being creative!!!!
