I thought this might be interesting for us to do..
I had a completely unplanned caesarean - seems like lots of us did! Be interesting to see if our percentages match the national average!!

Caesarean rates at record high
09 December 2005
The number of caesarean section births is continuing to rise in Australia, according to a new report produced by UNSW researchers.
The report, Mothers and Babies 2003, was prepared by the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare's National Perinatal Statistics Unit, which is part of UNSW.
Professor Michael Chapman, Head of the School of Women's and Children's Health, in the Faculty of Medicine said that 28.5 percent of mothers had a caesarean section delivery in 2003, compared with 19.4 percent in 1994.
"Caesarean section rates tend to be higher among older mothers and those admitted to private hospitals," said Professor Chapman.
In 2003, there were 256,925 babies reported to the National Perinatal Data Collection, born to 252,584 mothers.
Professor Chapman said the upward trend in maternal age is continuing. The average age of all mothers was 29.5 years and for first-time mothers was 27.6 years.

Induced 9am, contractions every 4 mins, "established labour" 1pm, 11pm Dr attended and urgent ceaser due to failure to progress.
Was under a general for the ceaser - so didn't see my bub till she was about two hours old! Missed her first cry :(
My ceaser wasn't planned and I was managing with only gas and air until ceaser. Feeling a bit down about the whole thing. But have a beautiful baby girl!

Natural for me. Spent most of the last part swinging off the hand rails on the wall then when i wanted to push was on the floor on all fours. Ended up using morphine cos of the long labour (53 hours). I was terrified of c/s too. Bub was posterior with head up instead of chin tucked in so he wasnt budging! Ended up fixing himself after 48 hours!

Acacia - my bub was looking up instead of chin down too! Dh says he was also posteria, my other support person says he wasn't, I can't seem to get a straight answer!
I had an epidural ( I had been dead against it!) and eventually he was born with the help of the vacum so they could turn him as I pushed. Ouch. I hurt thinking about it.

Emergency C/section
i had planned an intervention-free homebirth w midwives; ended up having a surprising homebirth - a 2 hour total labour, didn't think to call anyone that early, so found myself pushing in my toilet at home with DH in the lounge! DS came out before i could say anything.
quite a lovely surprise. so i ended up having a drug free vaginal birth, just not the way i expected.

I was induced at 8pm the night before with the tape - waters broken at 7am the next morning....Active labour for about 5 hours - 30 minutes of pushing. I had an epidural however it didnt work in some areas!!! Because the pushing part was very quick I ended up with two stitches

I laboured for 14.5hrs ( quick for me lol), labour began at 2:30 in the arvo monday the 8th gently progressing. About 3:30 in the morn of tuesday the 9th i woke Dh as things were becomming more intense, i was in transition for a really long time not to sure exactly how long we took no notice of the time. At about 5 o'clock i headed up to the shower to finish transition. My body began pushing and her water bag came down first so i broke it with my fingers, maybe 4 or 5 cntrxs later she was born at ten minutes past six in the morning. Pushing lasted about ten minutes. Placenta birthed an hour and a half later. Probably would have been quicker but i was to busy talking on the ph to my mum.

Emergency c-sec after 14 hr labour. DD was found to be a footling breech at 6cm dialation. I tried to continue to VB but stalled at 9cm so after 3 hrs of no progress we were off to c-sec.
