My poor little baby is going to get desex tomorrow...:crying:

How do i get the girls not to pick her up? I'm worried they will rip her stretches...

She is also getting mircochipped as well..

Yeah she will be a little more sedate than normal & in need of some TLC.
So get the girls to be gentle just as much as you need to watch out she doesnt get too excited & jump breaking stitches or even chewing on them.
She will be back to normal in no time honestly :hugs:

Thank-you sooo much for being a responsible pet owner

You might want to put her somewhere the girls can't get to her for the first night, so she can get plenty of rest :) Show your dd's the stiches (they'll be on her tummy, not the "other" place..lol)and tell them that they are sore and not to touch..and to just give her a nice soft back on her back instead. She'll be back to herself in no time.

Hey Hun

My Lab was desexed about a fortnight ago. She was extreemly doped up for the first night but by the next day we had hassles trying to get her to stay still as she had completely forgotten the whole ordeal!! I was so shocked at how quickly my pup recovered. The only hassle she had with it is that she had trouble going to the toilet for a while.

Your little pup will be fine, the girls above have summed it up well!!! Keep her locked in a room if you are worried that your girls will harrass her, she will probably just want to sleep as she will be so sedated anyways.

Your vet should give you plenty of information.

Good luck, and dont stress, she will be just fine! :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

Hi,
you definately need to get her to the vet she may hae an infection hopefully your vet will only charge you for medication thats what we used to do, it may just be a seroma which is fluid building up under the stitches, has she been licking at the surgery site at all?? hope i doesnt cost you too much:hugs:

When our girls got desexed we got a free follow up consultation a few days later just to make sure stitches were OK etc.

Maybe you will only be charged if they need to redo stitches or treat an infection.

Better to be safe than sorry!

thanks everyone for the replies..

I ended up talking to the vet again this morning, and they told me to take the bandaid off... (poor thing). But the stitches are looking alot better, they haven't opened anymore and the lump has gone down.

She told me to keep a eye on her. She has a appointment on the 3rd to get them out so if i have any problems just to take her in.

And yes she has just started licking them, but she isn't pulling at them. I think she has opened them from jumping at the windows, and the table..

Hi,
if hse is licking at them you seriously need to put a bucket on her head to stop her licking that is probably a big part of the problem if she keeps licking she can cause an infection, which can lead to wound breakdown and then you will have to pay to have her stitched back up, not worth the risk.
We end up restitching so many dogs because they are allowed to lick their surgery sites.
