Need some advice please.
I am 20 weeks pregnant and all is well but my sister is 7 weeks pregnant and has a brownish coloured discharge. She is really worried. She went to the doctor and was told she had a bladder infection. She has started losing more so I told her to ring her doctor again. When she did he said he had no app's free and she was probably going to miscarry so go to bed and see how you are in a couple of days.
My sister was bawling when she rang to tell me what the doctor said and I almost got in my car and drove the 50 mins just to give him what for.
I stopped myself from going as I probably would have choked him to death if I got my hands on him. I'm so angry. How heartless to tell her that over the phone.
I told her to go to the hospital. She did, and found out the she has a negative blood type & her body is producing antibodies to her baby. She has two other kids aged 8 & 6 and has never been told she has a negative blood type or had the injectoins your supposed to have.
She had the injection today and was orderred to bed rest.
Does anyone know what the chances of her losing the baby are? Or can anyone piont me in the direction of a good website where I can find out more about this?
What can she do to improve her chances of not losing the bub.
Please help.

Hi Mum of 2+1
I'm afraid I cannot help with advice about the chances of your sister losing her baby, as I am not a doctor.
However, I might be able to help with some info on blood antibodies. I have antibodies to Kell, which is a part of the blood we all have, but isn't important to anyone unless you have a problem in a pregnancy. I had my 1st child 3 years ago, during which I developed the antibodies to the +ve blood which he has, inherited from dad. We were not aware of this until my 2nd pregnancy.
During this time my antibodies increased significantly and although not confirmed, is thought to cause my baby to die in the womb at 17 weeks.
Does your sister have -ve Rhesus blood type or is it something else such as Kell? With the Rhesus info there is plenty of information available on the net, simply type in "Rhesus blood" or something similar in the query line. If it is the Kell, unfortunately, there is very little information on the net. I have searched everywhere. Any info I have found, however shows the symptoms and conditions seem very similar. There was an article only last week in the Courier-Mail about treatments for the Rhesus factor. I don't know all the ins and outs but my understanding is that Rhesus factor is very well known and more "easily" treated.
Does your sister live in Brisbane? The Centre for Maternal Fetal Medicine at the Mater Hospital are the experts in this type of stuff in Brisbane. (They are among the best in the world). Maybe she can make an appt there, or she might need a referral. Again, I'm not quite sure how it works. (I had a referral).
I totally agree, her GP did absolutely the wrong thing to say anything on the phone!! The staff at the Mater were excellent during my pregnancy. I notice you live close to me (on your profile), the same postcode. If you want to send a private email with your phone number that's fine, and I can talk to you if you think it might help.
I wish you both all the best and I am thinking of your sister. Having been there, it is very stressful, but if she has been to hospital, I hope she is doing well soon. Sorry for the long message. Best wishes.

I have sent you a private mesage. That is if I did it right.
I have never heard of Kell.
Sorry to hear of your loss.
I have had four miscarridges and know how it feels. I don't want my sister to go through that.
She has two kids but treats me like an expert so any info I can give her would be great. Even if she does lose this bub I would like to help her for future pregnancies.
I will try the search you suggested.
You prob don't realise but by just answering my post makes me feel abit better.
So thankyou so much.

I meant to ask.
How did you find the Mater hosp? I had my first two bubs at Ipswich but am going to the mater this time. Would like to hear your experience with them.
I guess it makes me feel worse for my sister because my pregnancy is going well.

Hi there, I read your thread and am thinking of your sister and her dilemma... When I first found out I was pregnant I went to the Drs to confirm my pregnancy and she told me that she thought I was going to miscarry as I had a - pregnancy test and my boobs weren't sore as they were with previous pregnancies... I think Drs can be really insensitive sometimes, the least she could have done was said lets run some tests ie: blood test, ultrasound, do another test in a couple of days etc... Instead I got into a panic and thinking the worst as to be expected, I still had not got my period within the next couple of days, so I did another test and sure enough it was still +, I went back to her and told her I was still pregnant we done a blood test and to her surprise my hormone levels were quite high, I no longer see her as she just made me feel awful, I am seeing a new Dr at present who is really nice and thorough, I am 10 weeks pregnant, and still optimistic about it all due to one Drs negativity... I am really hoping the best for your sister, please keep us posted how she is doing, Haana

Congratulations on your pregnancy. I hope all goes well for you.
Talk about boobs. I'm 20 weeks and my boobs are leaking like crazy.
Just got of the phone to my sister and she has stopped bleeding today.
Hopefuly this is a good sign. but this has happenned before so I'll keep my fingers crossed. Will be staying with her next week and she has a doc app on Monday. I will be going with her. Unfortunately she is going back to the same doc so it will take all my strength to keep myself under control. After her app on Monday I'll help her find a new doctor. I'm not happy with the Cabulture hos either. She had her other kids there and they never told her she was -rhesus and they never gave her the antiD injection she should of had after she had her other two. My sister is thinking of sueing the hosp if things go bad with this pregnancy as this could have been prevented. I won't have internet while i'm at my sisters, so I will let you all know how things go when I get back.
After reading your reply, I can't believe there are so many doc's out there like this.
Our health system is shameful

Just wanted to let everyone know that my sister is doing fine.
While I was stating with her, I did some ringing around to her old Doctor she had when she had her last two kids. Turns out she is not rhesus-. I phones the Caboolture hosp and told them. They then rechecked her chart and found they had made a mistake. They had given her an Anti-d injection but they said it will have no bad effects on her or the baby even though she is not negative blood type. Lets hope for their sake it doesn't!
I took my sis for another ultrasound last Wednesday and it showed all is well. The bleeding around the yolk sac has stopped and the babies heartbeat is 150.
If she takes it easy for the next couple of weeks, all should be OK :D
Hi,
Concerning about the muck-up. Sure theres no bad physiological side effects from the Anti-D but what about the emotional upheval your sisters been through :(
Very happy to hear she is still pregnant :) I hope the scan was reasuring for her.
Supportive love and energy there way from us,
Kerrie & Weeny Buba Xx
