period while breastfeeding

just a question has anyone got their period while breastfeeding ,i got mine last week and my little one is only 41\2months old,i found he got really fusy with feeding like he didnt like it and he was unsettled the whole time.my nana who is 80years old said that when you get your period it sends your milk sour,just wondering if anyone else has experienced this :confused:

Hi Amy,

My son's name is Jack too.. He is nearly 6 months old...
I have had my period back since he was 3 months old and he is very fussy at feeds when I have it.... I have heard that it changes the taste of the milk, not sure about it being sour, but it is definitely possible,,,

My guess would be though that when your period finishes that your milk if it turned funny when you had your period (eg from hormones etc) would change back to how it was when your period finishes.

The fussing stops pretty much when you stop bleeding, sometimes the day after.... Just be patient and keep feeding....

I got my period when my DS was 6 weeks old. It did'nt seem to affect my sons feeding pattern unless I just didn't notice. I was unawear that this could happen to your milk.

HI There, My bub is 13 weeks old and I have been having some supply issues in the past couple of weeks and have had to start supplementing with formula. Wouldn't you know, I just got my period!

Thinking that may have had something to do with it.

I have also heard that it can change the taste etc of your milk......Don't hormones suck sometimes!!

I am with you. I got my period when DS was 5 1/2 nearly 6 weeks old, and didn't notice any changes in his feeding, but that could just be me.
